I bought some .40 cal S&W 155 gr. molly coated rnfp a few years back and never used them till now and I can't find good load data for them. I'm going to be shooting them with a AMT Back-up with a 3" barrel. I would like to use the Bullseye, Unique or W231 that I have on hand. Anyone have a load for such a animal?

Just use data for a 155 lead in a .40S&W. Work your load up, and record your results. This is how I do it all the time. Don't worry about the moly. It doesn't make a significant difference in the load.

Thanks Hammer,
That would be nice but the three manuals that I have,Lets say Unique, are all different. Lee has 6.2to 6.5, Lyman has 5.0 to 6.3 and Speer has one for a 155 gr. Gold dot at 7.2 to 8.0. What the HEY! What do you go by?

The Gold Dot is not lead. I have used Unique for cast in the .40. 6.0 is a good start, or a bit less if you want. Work your way up, watching for pressure signs. In the .40 I don't try to hotrod it at all. It is a 40,000PSI cartridge to begin with. Find some reasonable vels for 155 grain boos, and duplicate those.

Load data for .40 S&W can be all over the map. I have used data out of the latest Hornady book only to discover it was way hot when compared to other sources, then I pulled all the bullets and melted them down... (I hate the way the powder sticks to the lube). Makes a big mess. Check several sources, and start low. There are crazy variations out there, and I have no idea why. The .40 is not a 10mm...

Well, I loaded up 5 rounds of the 155gr. mollys with 5.8 gr. of Unique and everything was fine except they weren't that accurate or maybe it was me. I then loaded 5 rounds of my newly cast 175gr with the 45%/45%/10 recipe from Recluse using 6.2 grains of Unique and
what a pleasant surprise. At 28 feet I got all 5 in a 2" circle. Very good day and happy about my first 40 cal. cast boolits.
I'm shooting a CZ 40P No leading at all using that 45%-45%-10

Say Hammer,
If you load for the 40, Do you crimp yours?

I use a dedicated TC die, and just remove the bell from loading. No more than that, it tends to squeeze the boolit smaller, and you don't want that!
