I was in a place called Industrial Metal Supply recently & saw that they had some armor plate in the remnants pile for $1.50/lb. It was 3/8" plate that looked to be around 1' x 2' to 3' x 4' pieces.

That's pretty cheap.

48th street sounds about right, but I think that it's in Tempe, not Phoenix. It's right across the street from Diablo Stadium.

I think 48th is division of phx & tempe as on the map street names change from one side to the other.

Could be. I'll take your word on that.

By the way, Artful, what's that car in your avatar? Is that something that you built?

Not one I built, no nail holes
- it's a 1938 Delahaye model 165 Figoni et Falaschi Cabriolet
When Curves of Steel exhibit came to phx art museum I got mesmerized by it.

I went to this website to do the weight calculations:

http://www.onlinemetals.com/calculator.cfm

I came up with 183 pounds for a 3/8ths inch thick by 3 foot by 4 foot long piece, assuming it was just A-36 steel.

times a buck fifty = $274.

thanks for posting this thread, but I would have to imagine to have any of it shipped would be prohibitively expensive.

oh...and when you said armor plate, do you mean AR400, AR500?

I don't know. I just noticed it in the remnants area. I didn't need any, so I didn't inquire about the details.

.............There's a IMS about 8 miles from my house. It's just up the street from Rainbow Nut & Bolt (if it has threads, they have it :-)) Last time I stopped in and it's a nice clean place. Kinda reminded me of FOX Cable news. Except for the guys out in the warehouse all the floor and counterhelp were very attractive females. Not critisizing ya understand, just an observation [smilie=1:

Their rems were in the first isle in the warehouse and there was a lot of stuff I'd have liked to have taken home, but nothing I really needed! There was a 27" length of 4.5" steel DOM tube with a 2.5" bore I was fantasizing about, but I got over it.
