Now adays I don't shoot as much as I used to or as much as I want either so a # lasts me along time plus I usually shoot the smaller calibers (32)now. Back when I was shooting more regular a # would last me about 2 months.

How long will a lb. last? At least a few hundred years if I don't shoot it up. :)

I can shoot up a pound in a couple of weeks to maybe a month if I get cranking with the 45-110 or one of the larger cal muzzleloaders.

As others have noted, it depends on how large the charges you intend to use are, and how often you shoot.

:kidding: Now to answer the new question. :kidding:

On average I use about 2-lbs of FF and 3 to 4 lbs of FFF per year. I shoot most of it horizontally though as shooting it up is not a standard practice for me. :kidding:

I have a pound can from 1975 that is still 3/4 full, but then I don't shoot black very often. Do the math, a charge of 70 grains will yield 100 shots per pound...Ray

At 30gr a throw ex my .40cals, 233 shots.

That said, I am doing nil MLing right now so powder is lasting for ever.

If someone is not poking ya in the ribs from time to time they did not like ya much was just simply the way I was raised. :bigsmyl2:

67 shots to the pound for trap, more shots per pound for skeet. In a normal year, 1 to 1.5 cases a year. The last two years have not been normal. Less than 10 pounds a year.

ive used up 1lb in a day before, between 2 .50 rifles, 2 .44 c&b revolvers, a .36 derringer, and 8 people.

I would think if you did not use 10 lbs a year, you just don't shoot much,

I use up somewhere between 25 and 50 pounds a year depending upon my mood. This year I am down a little as I have not finished my first case yet.

I have had the same pound of PYRODEX for over a year.
Since I have started with black powder I have gone through 100 .454 round balls... about 20 .35 cal balls and 40 of my .22s .My container of fffg is over half full.
I want to switch to TRIPLE SEVEN but I can't see having so much powder in the locker.

Shoot whatever brand you like, but my money is on the black. Cleaned a muzzled loader a friend left loaded with 777 last year and it was twice as rusty and nasty as ones that I have forgot and left loaded for a year with black. Usually shoot 3 -5 pounds. Just been to dang hot this year.

This strikes me as very funny. :D
I have around 45# of BP on hand, and over 80# of smokeless at the time. You need to come over to the dark side!

Well ... I shoot twice a month (sometimes more) for an hour every time. I shoot air guns too.
I have a 1858 Remington Revolver and a North American Arms .22 black powder revolver .
Also I put cartridges through my 1858 with a conversion cylinder too.
And in the warm months I use all my hobby time for fishing.

So that's how a pound lasts me so long.

I did bring my gun home when we had a hurricane... If things go bad I don't want to be on the wrong end of a situation.
It's under lock and key but I can get to it fast.
