good saturday morning,
i was looking at my 30cal molds the other day and for reasons unknown to me i have the urge to have one of them hollow pointed ,,why i don't know ,i don't hunt anymore and the boolits drop perfect for my applications ( i shoot win 94 30-30,,,, spanish mauser 7.62,, and issy 2a1 in 7.62) ,the molds in question are the older lymans ,,,,308291,,, and the 31141 both shoot great in all my chosen rifles BUT for some crazy ,unknown reason my scrambled brain is telling me to hollow point one of them (or both) why is this happening to me ?
if it aint broke don't fix it ,,right? , but the thought won't go away .
can anyone enlighten me on the advantages and dissadvantages of having this done ? and why.
maybe i just don't have a h/p and i thought /think i have to have one.
what do yall think? this is ruining my weekend trying to decide .
help,,help,,i'm going nuts.:twisted::veryconfu:evil:

This is completely natural. Don't fight it. I have several batches in to Buckshot right now. Look for some of Ben's posts on this, he found that some of his HP versions out-shot the non-HP original. I think there were theories on stabilization, etc....stuff I don't understand or care about, to me they just are cool. You also can't argue that a 3589 ideal out of a 35 Whelen will be serious whitetail material. I have a 38 wadcutter that has two pins even. When my plans are complete, I suspect I will have 20-some moulds done. Then there is the gas check removal moulds.....

Just PM Buckshot (Rick) and he will tell you how long the waiting list is. He's a great guy to work with.

If you do choose to HP a 308291, it should look something like this when finished.
The photo below is of a 311290 , not a 311291. ( BTW, that isn't a scratch
on the bottom drive band, it is filaments of cotton fibers. )

And ......YES.....It will shoot ! !

Thanks, I use an old Minolta Dimage 3.2 MP camera ( been obsolete for 5 yrs. ) . It has a macro setting. It has always made very good photos.

... it's a slippery slope you are treading.....

Pappa-uhh-mow-mow. (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=125533)

I'm about to embark with my 30 cal mold for my 30-06. The above is for several 45ACP's. (Mine, the Son's, the Neighbors)

For decades I have shot a pet load with 110 gr jacketed bullets.
I'm here now because I do not trust the government to leave me alone and need to be able to make my own projectiles.
See ya at the firing line. [smilie=s:

Ahh come on you guys. You know HP molds aren't good for anything. As a matter of fact they are downright dangerous and you should send them all to me as you know I am crazy and will do dangerous things.

sonnypie, are you talking about the one ,,rangefinder ,, did on the hollowpointing a lee mold ? yer i read that and it was very informative and interesting ,he did a great job ,
i would probably give that a whirl on one of my lee molds ( just to see if i could pull it off!!) like he mentioned you can always replace a $20 mold(if ya save your pennies).
but i wouldn't try it on say my 308291 ,,i would have a hard time getting another one stamped 308291 (its probably older than me and i'm almost pushing up the daisies[smilie=l:),,, i will have to leave this gig to somebody with alot more smarts than me:bigsmyl2:.
yall have a great sunday ,,, im going to the range,,, [smilie=w:

I do believe that you'll be " miles ahead " to go with Buckshot on your HP job for your 308291. You won't be disappointed.

Yup, I had/still have that itch for H.P. molds. The biggest itch I`ve had so far was to H.P. my RCBS .416 mold. After talking with buckshot about it I went ahead with the project. I also had him include a seperate pin that is attached to the mold with a screw that allows me to cast solid point bullets if desired. I now have a goodly amount of H.P. molds for quite a few calibers. It`s the itch that keeps on wanting to be scratched.Robert
