Gents,

I have a friend in AZ casting the Lee 1oz slug for the 12 ga. He's recently had some surgery done on his shoulder. He generally uses Rem hulls for his reloads. Anyone have a good load for the 1 oz slug at around 1150-1250 fps? Lee materials are all higher velocity. He's shooting thru a Mossberg 500 so no problem with a gas system not cycling. Thanks in advance.

Just pick a 1oz trap recipe. You might have to try a few combinations to get the accuracy you are looking for since these slugs seem to act differently with fast powders.

Try Clays powder, as blaster said a 1 oz trap load will give you a good start. I used to shoot a lot of 1 oz as first shot in doubles and 16 yd rise. Clays was the best and burns really clean. A friend had good luck with Win SuperField. Good luck!!

I load a lot of shotgun.

I prefer Clays as well. I load anywhere from 12-13 gr. with 1 oz of shot for light manageable load in a double barrel., thus no gas as well.

Good Luck

I'm on the road right now & don't have my load data with me. I had loaded up a bunch of those Lee 1oz slugs several months ago with Green Dot @ around 1,000fps. Recoil was comfortable. It made trap loads look stiff by comparison. I think that the powder charge was around 18 grains. Please look up my old posts in this section to confirm that. I was roll crimping in Winchester Universal hulls with W209 primers & a pink Winchester wad.

Edit:
I've checked my load notes. It was 18.5 grains (2.2cc) of Green dot.
