Found a source for 99.95% pure tin ingots at $6.75 a lb if I buy over 100 lbs. It is relatively close to where I live and I could make a trip to pick up a large quantity if the interest is there. I am getting tired of paying $10 to $14 dollars a lb for tin plus shipping.

Before you guys go buy this stuff, see if you can find a car/truck radiator repair shop in the neighboorhood. That lead is 63 percent tin. The drippings is what you are after. Offer to clean out the tanks for the produce. Warning: this is a very nasty job, and the weight you get will be up to 50 percent trash. To make the trip worth while, do a complete job in ridding the place of all spare metal no matter what it takes. Assume a hard day. Proceeds are definitely worth it. ... felix

Add to that 3391 lbs of tin to yield 71211 lbs of 20-1 alloy. That should keep you in boolits for awhile, even that big 50....lets see....at 8 to the pound that would be almost 570,000 boolits.

All joking aside, that batch of scrap lead will probably go for $200 or less.

The last tin I bought was priced a $5.50/lb. I asked for 'about six pounds', and the guy stacked ingots until he hit 6.5 - so that's what I got.
With $8.10 for the flat rate box, the total came to $6.75 per pound.

If I had bought more tin, the shipping per pound would have been reduced.

I imagine the guy is still in business, and he does sell in small quantities. The source of his tin is wine bottle foil.

My best score was a full box of 50/50 lead/tin electronic solder bars. Fifty pounds, for the asking price of $15. Yes, I did feel a little sheepish as I lugged it away. Just sheepish enough to wait until out of earshot before whooping aloud. [smilie=w:

They sold some like that up around Baltimore last year . I think about 30,000 pounds and it went for $5000 if I remmember correctly.

The price of tin has gone crazy. About 1 1/2 years ago I bought 50 1# rolls of 50/50 solder for the tin. I make my soft cast bullets using 10# pure lead and 1 roll of the solder. Well, I am getting low on the solder so I called today to order some more from the local plumbing supplier.............. It has gone from $3.29 to $6.49 per roll. That puts tin at about $13/# that way........ouch
