From what the weatherman said the whole East Coast needs to keep a very close eye on this one. Currently predicted to come ashore just south of Wilmington, SC, but could hit Florida square on, could hit almost anywhere along the coast, or skirt the coast and hit New England.

For us I guess the best scenario is the currently predicted one, come ashore around Wilmington, come up I95, and dump buckets of water on the Dismal Swamp fire.

The very long range forecasts are saying this COULD get here in New Hampshire at the end of the week or early next week.
Keeping an eye on it.
Food, water, fuel for the generator and full tank of gas in the cars is on the menu. Stock up now....good to have it anyway.

Sounds like you guys just got a little shaking. I suspect it may be the Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves at what goes on in DC.

I had been watching this one as well. Looks like I am out of the "cone of uncertainty" as we call it. I have been through 4 so far. Take care.

I've been through a bunch of em, at home and working in the Gulf for 25 years. I rode a couple out in the Gulf. That was not fun.
I hope that you guys over on the east coast fare well and the darned thing swings farther east.

Currently predicted to be 30-40 miles offshore Hampton Roads at 2AM Sunday, at a Cat. 2. That means we are smack in the 'zone of uncertainty' - could come up I95 or be 80 miles offshore.

Hunker down and hang on. I'm hoping it dies down before it gets ashore and does too much damage. Best wishes and good luck to all of you on the East coast.

At current predictions we are likely to do just that. If it moves further west we might head for the hills. We know Lynchburg quite well and our son is there.

I'm hopin she can speed it up a bit and get here two days sooner, that way I won't have to go to New York and make nice with wife's two sisters and husbands. They're idiots and unarmed, "but then I repeat myself" (shamelessly stolen from someones sig line)

Mongo, looks like you'd better hunker down. They are talking about us getting Cat 1 winds here- very much like Isabel. We were out of power for almost a week then.

Well, It looks like me and mine are out of the zone of uncertainty. We have moved to the zone of CERTAINTY, and looking at a long drawn out mess mixed with a bit of terror I suspect. Not many self respecting hurricanes have ever taken the opportunity to miss Southeastern North Carolina in the Wilmington area. Oh well break out the beer and batten down the hatches.

I feel for you guys. The waitin' and wonderin' are the worst part of it, not to mention when/if it does hit hearing noises you did not know was possible for a house to make. I have been lucky so far. Lost all the shingles but no structure during Charlie. Had no power for ten days. I keep five full grill tanks now during hurricane season, leason learned. That gas to beer ratio is real important. Good luck fellas.

Current forecasts have it just offshore and most of the damage on the Eastern Shore. We are likely to have Hurricane force (Cat 1-2) winds and, God willing, enough rain to extinguish the fire in the Dismal Swamp. When Isobel came through (our last experience of a hurricane) the ground was already fully saturated with water from previous storms. That is not the case now. I expect slightly less flooding and a lot less trees down. In that storm Dominion Power had a 94% service outage. They had to essentially rebuild their entire infrastructure. Hopefully they did it better.

People already cleaned out the stores here including all the generators. there going nuts!!! I;m glad I always keep my gear and supplys well stocked to avoid all the nutty people. Planning ahead is always a good thing! So while there running around I'm sitting at home typing this waiting for my lead pot to heat up

Take it from a Floridian, load up on pop tarts, junk food, fill the coolers with beer, get extra water and have a BBQ with all the meat from the coolers. I find a generator to be wastefull as most don't run the ac and no sense running a couple hundred bucks of gas to save $50 of meat in frige.
Also keep car with extra gas.
Good luck!

Just cast a bunch of Frankenstein's for Matt and some of the 25 Heavy for me. Spent an hour and a half over the pot. Gas stove, ladle pour, wdww's all of them.

So far we have not lost power except early and only for less than a minute. Don't think that counts.

We got all the eggplants that were close to big enough, some of the peppers but they will survive. That's about all that's left in the garden except the herbs and the two artichokes now about a foot tall.

We lost power last nite and got it back on sometime this AM. Only a few small branches down here, an hour or two of work. Way different than last time, ten pickup truck loads of junk just of the street and two small yards!

As I type this Irene has arrived in Ct. Raining like a cow urinating on a flat rock. Blowing, but not too bad so far. Storm picked up speed. Up to 26 mph, so it won't last as long as predicted. Still have power but the gen is fueled and ready to go.
Been awhile since we got hit. Bob was the last and Gloria before that.

Irene, now a northeaster, arrived in my area early this AM with intermittently heavy rain and gusty winds, e.g., 30 - 40mph. However, listening to the Weather Channel, you'd think it was the end of the world: We've had thunderstorms much worse than this!

Heavy Rain (about 5" today) , not too heavy wind. As of 4 p.m. Sunday, power is out but we are running on the generator. Plenty of fuel in reserve and food in the freezer. Power lines are down in a few places and there are a few trees laying across the road.
No flooding, but southwestern NH got hammered badly....lots of serious flooding. Not as much wind but more rain than we got. We had more wind and less rain. We were on the east side of the storm track.
For us, 25 miles inland from the coast, all in all, it wasn't all THAT bad.
Hope everyone else fared as well.

Pretty much a boring storm here in the shadow of NYC. Unfortunately the power went out at 8 AM and is still not back on. Seems to be a lot of trees down (ground was soaked with rain before this) and a big tree took out a pole several blocks from here. Hope they fix it soon, the battery in this laptop is dying quick and now I remember how happy I was to get DSL and lose the dial up.

If it does not come back soon BIG feast on the stuff in the fridge. Gas and water are both fine and I have radios and flashlights plenty.

Last I knew the firefighters haven't been able to get back to the fire in the Great Dismal Swamp, deep water and trees down. Not sure if the rain soaked down far enough to put out the fire in the peat, but this will allow them to focus on the areas where the fire is deepest and pump water there.

Power out for three days. Limbs down, many trees down, roads closed due to flooding and trees down.
Believe it or not, the damage was not all that bad, Minor flooding and tree damage.
Vermont and western Massachusetts got hit very hard with flooding. We got the wind and about 3-5" of rain. They got 7+ inches of rain.
Thank goodness for generators!

Finally got power at 6:00pm last night. Internet is just now up and running. We got the worst of Irene in Williamsburg. Lots of poeple here and west that are still in the dark. As far as damage goes mostly nothing just limbs and such.

I just got some heavy rain and wind, a bunch of small branches and leaves all over. Im guessing I got real luckey this time, My lights didnt even flicker, Tommy
