New here. great site. Question. I have a super comanche single shot .45/.410. yea the cheap one. but it was a gift. Im shooting aliant 250 gr rnfp. w/7 gr american select and cci mag primer for about 750 fps. paper targets show oblong holes.and recoverd bullets show impact on the sides.no damage to nose of bullet. This pistol has the 3" chamber for the .410. Is there anything I can do to my handload to correct this? thanks for any help or suggestions.

If you push them to say 900or 950 fps it may help.

P.S. Make sure its a safe load before you try.

Years ago, a friend had one of the TC Contender .45 Colt/.410 Shotshell. It was fine with the .410 shotshell but TERRIBLE with the .45 Colt. Too much jump before the bullet hit the rifling.

Somewhere there is a thread about using brass .410shells with slugs. I think it titled something like 11.4rx74. It was using a .45/410 contender.

Might try to find a fat boolit that will fit the throats, same as would be fit for a revolver. ( You won't get as perfect a fit because the chamber is larger then a throat, just try to get closer.) What you want to try for is a large enough boolit so the loaded case will just chamber. Then cast hard so the boolit will take the twist without skidding. My 45-70 BFR has about 7/8" boolit travel before hitting the rifling but it is super accurate to 500 meters.
Some guys use brass cases the same length as the 410 shell too. The brass will get you close to the rifling and is also thinner to allow a larger boolit. I don't know where they get them but someone here must know.
This sounds like an interesting problem to solve. Keep us posted.
Has anyone loaded light boolit loads in a .410 case?

When I was looking for a case to make cylinder-length shotshells in the 45 Colt, I found that the Russian 7.62 x 54 appeared to be usable. You'd need to machine the rim some and size the base a bit, but a new case will nearly fit a factory 45 Colt chamber as is.

My mate had one years ago, he got better accuracy using 410slugs and went with them after a lot of frustration trying to get decenty accuracy with the 45Colt.

Be a good bet to slug that barrel to see what dia it needs.

Then get slugs a couple thousandths larger. That should be a big help.

Main thing to keep in mind, that's a light pressure shotgun, not a rifle, or cannon.

So when you start loading with the proper sized slugs don't over load and blow it up.

Hey, Ballistic Products has brass .410 shells. They are only 2-1/2" but would be worth a try.

Suggestion only;I've never tried them this way. There are some muzzle loading boolits called REAL(rifling engraved at loading) that I believe are pretty fat for .45 caliber. Also there are the minnies with hollow bases to expand into the rifling. With the hollow bases, keep in mind they can be pushed to hard and have the bases seperate leaving a loose lead ring in the bore. Pushed lightly they might work out well. Also consider round balls just for plinking. You can get them as fat as .457 for the Rugers. Round balls certainly will cure key-holing.

I shoot home cast REAL's and they do a great job in everything from a .45 cal 5" pistol, to a 32" .54 at just about any velocity.

That lil pistol is amazing, can't hit anything, but, I can put them ALL thru a 4'x4' target frame at 100yds with 20-40gr FFg.

Have no idea the twist of the pistol, but, looks to be real slow. Not long enough to make much more than a slight curve before it's out.

Seems to shoot much better with .45 SWC's than anything else though.
