I have a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt. The cylinders measure .456 and the barrel is .451. Accuracy is non existant. I have a RCBS 45-270 mold that casts .456 diameter bullets. Will these bullets shoot in the Ruger as is or will sizing them down in the barrel be to much pressure ? Thank You

You will never get super accuracy but no, you can shoot them by just working loads.
I would call Ruger about it. That is too large.

If it's new, send it back to Ruger.

I wouldn't waste time with something you know isn't right.

I never got the 270SAA to shoot for me in my Ruger.... and it had proper dimensions.

Something isn't right here! I seriously doubt if a cylinder with .456 throats left the Ruger factory like that. Did you buy the pistol used or do any modifications to the cylinder throats?

Lots of old Colts out there with .456 and larger cylinder throats. They can be made to shoot, but never with a high degree of accuracy.

I expect that this is a Ruger that has been around for a long time. It would be worth a call to Ruger's customer service to see if they would check it out, and possibly replace the cylinder. Never hurts to ask, and Ruger is making some good cylinders these days....

I bought the pistol new back in 1978. It is an ok shooter with factory ammo, 6" groups. Reloads are about the same or worse. Ruger will put in a new cylinder for a price. I would just like to get it to shoot with reloads. Even a 3"group would be nice.

I returned mine and when it came back, it had new cylinders (mines convertible) and a new barrel. Shoots near match grade now, so I'd contact them before wasting much of your time. I put 3 boxes of various loads through mine thinking I might find something decent.

I had sent a Ruger blackhawk in for repairs and they did swap out cylinders

About how much does Ruger charge for a new cylinder now?
