When we left Camp Pendelton we to Highway 5 to Barstow, it was getting hotter as we got to Barstow.
It was not until we hit the Mojave Desert that it really got hot. I felt like I was caught in the exhaust of a giant electric hand drier. :holysheep Luke's i-phone said it was a 121 degrees. That i-phone is an amazing thing.

While Luke was in the Marines he wanted some of his friends to go to Havasu Lake on the California/Arizona boarder, but the pooped out on him so when he suggested we go there, I said why not. It would have been more fun if the temp was below 100.

It was here that I had to buy a new camera, as the old one died on me.
Going through the desert also took it's toll on both of us and we mostly got in the water and laid on the picnic table in the shade to cool off.

Another attraction in this area is the London Bridge. Yes, this is the actual London Bridge, that was brought to America and rebuilt to span this river.

The next day we loaded up and headed for Las Vegas. We got a room in the Riviera Hotel. Getting there was about like going through the Mojave all over again. I spent a lot of time in the pool and in the room the first day recovering again from the effects of desert travel.

The next day we spent the whole day walking up and down the strip, they don't call this town "sin city" for nothing.:groner:

One of the places we visited was The Harley-Davidson Cafe.
We drank lots of water and had a sandwich, it felt good to be out of the sun.

Just imagine living there for 5 years. I was stationed at 29 Palms, CA., and after a while you actually get used to the heat. The good thing about it is the lack of humidity, which means you don't sweat. The bad thing is that you don't sweat, so you are clueless as to how much water you have lost. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Many years ago I used to drive equipment from San Diego to Las Vegas. I can feel your torment when crossing the desert. Like OBIII said you don'r sweat, all you do is feel the gritty salt crystals build up on your skin. Drink alot of cold ones and enjoy your trip.
