First batch of 9mm 125 RN

While on vacation I set up my electric pot and cast around 100 9mm with my new lee .356 double mold. Most weight at 124-128. Worked well. only a few duds. Lubed then with method Iraqvet8888 using flexible baking pan and melted lube. was able to pour lube around 75 or so bullets. let is set overnight. then pop them out with pencil. Ran them through lee size die. Lube held well in grooves. Nice buildup of lube in die so no leading noted.

Made a few test rounds with Win231 and 4.6 load. Will head to the range soon to test.:razz:

Sounds good I just started pouring with the Lee 356 120 TC mold found it work great if you pour fast and a temp of about 750. The big trick is to keep the mold hot. I load mine at 4.4 grains of unique. I had a little leading but when I slugged my bore I found I couldn't size them at 356. I had to shoot raw cast as they were dropping at 358. Now I got a 358 sizing die on the way just to make things uniform.I am still working this load but seams to be coming in good with no leading. I also use iraqvet 8888 pan lube technique but with a slightly different mix. Hope you have good luck with yours at the range. be watching for you range results.

IIRC, the max load for 9mm with W231 and a 125 gr. RN is 4.4 grains. Could be wrong but you might want to check.

My standard load for 9mm is 4.0 gr W231 with the Lee 124 gr TL RN or the Lee 125 gr conventional design RN.

I would say your load is hot. Lyman shows max 4.4 gr for 120 TC bullet. I use 4.3 for 1150 fps in my 5" 1911. My version of the Lee 125 RN casts at 127 gr with my alloy and I use 4.1 gr of 231 @ 1.08"OAL. I would back off to 3.7 to start and work up in your gun.

Thanks for the Feedback. I too looked back at my recipe and saw I was hot. Pulled the 5 that I had loaded and dumped them. Working on 3.9 and 4.0 now. Range test will tell me. which i keep. Thanks again for the advise. Always welcome.

What diameter are you sizing to? I would recommend starting at .357, not .355 or .356.

I use this same bullet and I have found that bigger and softer has solved all of my problems with cast 9mm.

When you get things running well, I think that the two cavity mold won't cast the volume you need for 9mm. I see you getting a six banger in the future.

+1 on larger sizing. I run the 125 gr RN through a .358 die. Most don't touch the sides.
Gonna try a .357 die that should be in Thursday or Friday
