Okay,
I've got a new SRH in 480 Ruger and wondering if any others here have the same and what boolits you like. I've got a Lee 400 grain mold that drops #2 clone alloy at .476"dia and my cylinder throats are .4795 up to .480. Thats where things go south as the thread crush area of the brl is .475 so barrel lapping is eneviable. Have all ready started that process and it will be a couple hundred rounds from what i'm seeing so far. Anyway back to your favorite casts, and has anyone tried an LFN desgn say 355gr up to 375gr with about a 73% meplat and nose length of .450" to crimp and would this boolit need a GC or could it be PB?
I'm fishing for ideas based on experience with this cartridge.
Thanks for your time guys and great site.
Charlie;-)

Birddog:

Just read an article by Glen Fryxell at Handloads.com (click on "articles" and scroll down toward the bottom of the list of articles. Good list of components and other pertinent data. 'Tuck

I got a couple different ones from Dave at Montana Bullet Works to try, A 340 SWC, a 370 and 400 "LBT". My SRH seems to like all three with the little I have done with them so far.

When I had mine I used an RCBS 400 grain plain based bullet.. Never had a problem.

I wish I had it back...

Welcome birddog:
I can't help you with your specific request but you are in good hands here. Lots of help here. I agree with Tuck, you need to read some of the past threads and other articles by some of the most knowledgable shooters/handloaders/boolit casters on the planet right here. Welcome and enjoy this addictive hobby.

I have two of the lee moulds and they both cast .477 with ww. I shoot them in a Taurus Raging Bull and shoot well enough that I've never worried about slugging the throats. Love this gun.
