Anybody tried this powder in .375 H&H? Anybody got any loads developed? I'm getting purty good performance with 4759 (30 grains) and a modified Lyman 330 grain postell modified with a Hollow point nose (315 grains), and the rear driving band turned down to make a gas check shank. Gotta thank the guys here fer steering me towards 4759. I'm wanting to climb the velocity ladder somewhat. (and still kill he!! outa thangs)

Here's what worked out for me. I found that 5744 was quite cyclic in charge weight and accuracy. Groups tightened, opened up, and tightened again in around 2 grain increments. I had similar accuracy at 36.0 and 40.0 grains. Original AA data recommended a mag primer whereas later data didn't. I always used a magnum. I also taked with the ballistician at AA on the max load listed in their manuals. He told me that there max load was not really a max for cast, but rather about where most thought their velocity limit should be. He gave me some real max load information that exceeded the manual by several grains. 5744 leaves quite a few ghosts in the bbl. They slowly reduce as pressure goes up, but even max loads have a few.

I've found that 36 gr of AA5744 under a Lyman 377449 (270 gr GC'd) without a dacron filler runs 1852 fps out of my M70. Accuracy is excellent at 1 1/2 moa at 100 yards for 7 - 10 shot groups. It does leave a few 'ghosts" as BaBore mentions. A dacron filler does lesson the amount of ghosts as pressure/velocity go up. However, I found the above mentioned load to be an excellent one in that velocity range. If more velocity is wanted I switch to 4895 with a dacron filler and drive that bullet to 22-2300 fps with the same accuracy.

Thanks, Bruce and Larry. Doesn't sound like an optimum powder. I think I'll go with the 4895 like Larry suggests. I'd like to find a powder that will go on up to shoulder pounding velocities, but I'm not sure those would be my main loads. Just wanna go there to visit. Maybe 4350? Werks fine in my .375 Ackley Imp. (2940 fps).

I use AA4350 with 300 and 350 gr J bullets at 2450 - 2550 fps. Works fine in that application but haven't tried it with cast as 4895/dacron filler and the 377449 do the job for me in the M70 with cast.
