Greetings....I am new to this site and have just ordered a Uberti "El Paton" .45 Colt with a 5 i/2 inch barrel. I have been shooting cap and ball for a little over a year now and also have a Queen Anne .50 Flint Pistol. Factory cartridges for the .45 Colt cost over $1.00 a round so I going to start reloading in about a month.
I won't ask any specific questions at this time but will read what has been posted, just thought I would introduce myself a bit and look forward to reloading.

I would suggest that you buy a reloading manual and read it. It will answer a lot of questions for you as well as show powder charges for all common handgun and long gun cartridges. Manuals are published by many companies and all of them are a good place to start. If you are going to be shooting cast boolits I would suggest that you get a Lyman Cast Bullet Manual. Have fun, you will enjoy it.

Skinny, welcome to the Cast Boolits.
I have the Uberti "Evil Roy" model. Shoots better than me. Keep the loads down to the black powder pressures.

Good place to start if you haven't already set up to cast has already been suggested above with the Lyman Cast Bullet Manual.

I'd say a good book to read if you're gonna be shooting black powder in your SAA is Mike Venturino's book 'Shooting Sixguns Of The Old West' if you haven't already got it. It's got a good section on .45 Colt black powder loads/molds etc and shows just what can be achieved with it.

Welcom, The books recommended above are good ones and I have them all. I also have a pair of Uberti 45 colt revolvers and they are among my very favorite pistols. You will enjoy yours I am sure.

I found a Uberti 1873 .45 Colt reproduction with the "Antique" finish instead of the El Patron and I am shooting factory ammo in order to get some brass for reloading. The Lee 4 hole turret press and 4 die set for .45 Colt are the way I am going to go for reloading the cases. I am going to cast boolits using a Lee #90234 .45 cal. (.452) 200 grn RNFP mold. These boolits can also be used for .45ACP which I am going to reload for later on.
I always like showing off my new guns so here are a couple of pictures:
