Hey guys,
Have the oppertunity to get a set of old molds for very cheap, I have been able to identify two of them, but can't ID the third. It is an old ideal, with the numbers; 311, 291, and 251 stamped into the side of it.

Any one have ideas, or a possible place to find this info?

Thanks

Anyone know what the last number is for?

311291 is the mold #. It is a .311 RN design and has application in pretty much all the 30 rifles 30-40,30-30, 30-06, 308 etc. The last 3 digits just identify the cherry it was cut with.

I feel bad for the mould....it looks like it's had a tough life. How are the cavities?

Fer sure Doug, and the handles were welded too, then Bubba ran both the handles and mould across a grinder from the marks. Some people can't appreciate a good tool.

Look at both haves of the mould. Ideal and Lyman put a number on both sides of the mould to make sure the proper two peices of the mould were kept together. If 251 is on both sides it is that workroom number.

+1. I believe the 251 just keeps the two blocks together.

They are correct, i forgot the suffix indicates cherry, the 3 digits is just a tool room #.
