i have a 1911 that i want my grips checkered, i have the Walnut (a plus about living in the south all the free hardwood you could want) and i was looking it seems this Forum has a lot more talent on here than i could even think about having could someone PM me for some prices or some ideas.. thanks

1911 grips are pretty basic with no compound curves etc. Checkering tools are cheap through Brownells. It might be worth a try to do it yourself. If you lay out your 2 baselines correctly you just follow from there. Kind of like doing ceramic tile, get the base line correct and the rest is easy. You can practice on pieces of scrap wood to get the hang of it.

How does the finish on a laser engraved piece of wood compared to a traditional cut? Do you have pictures?

I suspect that the cost of having your grips checkered will exceed the cost of factory checkered grips by a good bit.
