Does anyone here bring their WW clips to the scrap yard after they smelt? I'm just curious as to what the scraper considers them. Do you get the price for scrap steel? Also, what do they consider a bucket full of only steel and zinc WW? I assume they just give the standard WW price?

Where I take mine the clips get put in #10 cans and the tops crimped over and weighed with the other mixed steel/iron scrap, including the Fe clipons. Seperate out the zinc as you'll get 3X or more for that as the steel. 10

Same here, just mix it in with the rest of the scrap steel.

I wait till sunday afternoon and take a ride over to the "outside the fence compound".
I look around for anything worthwhile and a freezer.
If I can use it I pick it up.
I dump all the clip's and **** into a freezer so it'll be easier for them to clean up Monday morning.

I dump it in the barrel with the oil filters and brake parts and shocks and blades and stuff I accumulate from working on cars and tractors. Gets dumped in the trunk of a car I take to the shredder or mixed with a load of scrap metal. Right now getting $300 a ton for sheetmetal. I don't throw out anything metallic.

Steel clips as stated above are going for $250-$300 a ton, the zincs are classified as wheel weights because of the steel clip. I am going to smelt my next 5 gallon bucket of zincs.

Zinc in ingot form is about $2.50 - $3.00 per lb, in wheel weight form it is worth about $0.50.

Not to be a wise guy, but kitco.com shows spot zinc at $.98 / lb.

If you have someplace that pays $3 / lb, I think I would beat a path to their door.;)

Take a look at Rotometals, my scrap yard quoted similiar prices as well.

Sometimes I get lead price for the dross and clips, sometimes steel price. I don't throw anything metallic away either.
The yards are even paying $.25 a pound for plastic bottles.
