I'm thinking of getting a set of Carbine Tree locking mold handles and then having them extended so they can handle 6 cavity molds....like Lee. This is not my idea. I wrote the owner who said that several of his customers had done exactly that....

If you've never seen these, the URL is at;

The description and pictures are toward the bottom of the page.

I've been interested in these handles for some time but I want them to fit as many molds as possible,

I use them primarily for my HP molds with removable pins. They work great.

I have a set of these, and they work great. I can cast a lot longer without my hands hurting. They are a life saver when the old carpal tunnel starts acting up.

I have a feeling with those locking mold handles on a Lee type 6 cavity mold, a steel sprue plate, and a KAL cam lever, it would look something that would resemble a control mechanism for a nuclear power plant.

It still want to try it.

Or you could build these......

Gussy's mould handles are great. I have 2 pair of them that I keep on the blocks to cast bpcr match bullets.
Those handles help to achieve very tight weight variations. Fewer rejects, means more bullets with less time spent casting.

Don, which boolits are you using the locking handles on? I've got a very nice lyman postal mould from a member here, but still have a weight issue. I'm thinking Gusseys handles may help.

Wish I had the equipment and skills to weld. The Carbine Tree handles just need extensions welded to them to handle a 6 cavity mold.

I'm going to order a set of Carbine Tree locking handles, and get them modified a bit to fit 6 cavity molds. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

I just looked at this article, and it seems to me that it's a lot of work that doesn't need to be done. Once he removed the flexible jaws (the very first step) he had what looked to me like it could have worked just as it was, maybe with some grinding to bring the holes closer to the edge. As I understand it, mould handles are supposed to put pressure on the mould ONLY from the screws holding the handles onto the mould, so the pressure is even, and if there was a lot of space around the handles it shouldn't matter.

It always "looks" easy....... But it usually isn't.....:smile:

Have at it, let us know how you make out.........
