Why can't it always be this easy?? A friend called my wife and told her there was some lead at the dentists office for me (she works there). I was in town today and another girl who works in the office flagged me down and said to stop over there to get some lead.

If that wasn't easy enough, as I parked, she came out carrying the 20+ pounds of dental lead to my Bronco. All I did was take it, turn around and set it in the back!!!

Once in a life time I think!!

No not in teeth. The lead foils are used to back up the film when they take an x-ray of your teeth.

I thought that the film came in individual lead foil packets.
I might have thought wrong.

What I used to get was thin pieces about 1/2 X 1 1/4", and I was told not to handle it before melting. That indicated it was on the film when used, and could be contaminated from the patent.
Now all the local dentist use digital X rays and there's no more lead involved.

I went to church this morning, and a friend told me he had torn out a lead shower pan. Did I want it?

Nothing like pounding a shower pan into a roll for the pot to make a mean feel good. :)

I used up all my lead luck when I asked off-handed like at a scrapyard if they had any. Just so happened they had just taken in about 400 lbs of near pure lead X-ray shielding taken from a local hospital that was being renovated. This was 6-7 years ago, before the price runup. :bigsmyl2:

Since then I have had no luck like yours at all !
