View Full Version : Should I market rigid press stands/ pedistals?

Recently, I've been building a bunch of these, per customer request for their presses. Some have been more like Dillon's BFR stand, and some more like the Ultimate Reloader's plans. I am a welder by trade, and own a mobile welding service. Would anyone on here be interested in one for their machine, with the price tag around $160 + shipping? I'm just seeing if there is an interest, and if so, these may help me work through the ever present "slow winters". Lol

Looks like a quality piece of equip. But $160.00 is too steep for me...

Hi,
I'll have to admit,I'm a little lost on this? It takes more things to reload than just a press. You really need a table to have a place to set things and if you have a table or bench then you have a place to put the press. I mount my presses and lubsizers on 5/16" aluminum so I can move things around the bench and just C-clamp everything.

I dont know if there is a market for that or not, but I can tell you I would not buy one at 1/4 the price.

It looks like a nicely made product...but I don't think it can take the place of a solid bench at the proper height. It's also a little expensive and I'm guessing another $30 for shipping? This is more than the press that most people would mount to it.

This is the place. You will find out pretty quick what people think.

That and the folks around here are generally more "do it yourself" guys and gals than other forums.

This was my thoughts exactly, but Dillon sells 'em so maybe you can too. FWIW I made one with strips of small angle iron at each edge to hold Acro Bins and they get used.

All my presses are mounted to a bench.

My lubesizer is mounted on a midway stand I can drag it around any place I want and the 4 bins hold a bunch and it's impossable to tip over with the large base.

Midway gets like $60 for them but I have seen them on sale for $10 off.

$160+ship sounds a bit steep to me.

I think that blue stand looks awesome.

If I had the type of space to use something like that,
I think I could afford a few stands like that.
But I don't have a shop.
I load in a spare bedroom that was turned into a mancave.

The bigggest problem with that pedistal is that you have to bolt it to the floor. If you have ever walked into a pedistal vise in a large shop you know what Im talking about. They just don't move!

The minimum you can sell that product for and still make any money is your total cost (including materials, labor, and all costs related to manufacture) plus 120 %. And yes your labor is NOT free! it must be added in at whatever rate you normally get for your welding truck.

I don't see this one as being a money maker, as there is not enough demand, or enough margin.

I do see it as a way to make friends, and if you persued it in that light I think it would be worth doing occasionally.

Metal by the foot in KC has 3x3x.120 wall sq mild steel tube 30" long for $17, 6x6x.25 thick
steel plates for $2.50 each. $22 for materials plus welding and drilling some holes.

Seems a bit steep at $160 to me.

Many modern homes have floors that are made of partical board or imported plywood. That stuff wouldn't hold screws well enough for the lateral force produced by press operation. You've got a good idea, but I doubt it will fly, at that price point.

As someone who has been using a homemade pedistal anchor bolted to a concrete floor for some time now there simply is no comparison. There is absolutely zero wasted motion in the press stroke. My previous setup was a 600 lb butchering table anchored to the wall and the difference is still night and day.

$160 is steep, but $249.95 from Dillon is much worse.

I love the rigidity one should have if properly mounted to a concrete floor, but see this as only a niche market.
Most people here are too frugal to spend that much for a press stand and are heavy in to DIY.
Maybe find a way to market it to members of the fifty cal. shooters assn.

Looks like a well made product, just a little high on the price.

I would have to agree with the other guys. I just picked up a universal bench grinder stand for 28 bucks.

Well folks, steel prices are almost out of sight.

Last week, I sold a small amount of scrap for 23+ $$ and returned a 21' length of 4" I.D. steel pipe for a touch over $180.00.

However, all in all, I think the idea of the under bench receiver system is FAR better and greatly more usable!

I have given thought to making some for sale, but not sure I want to go there.?.?

Keep em coming!

I think the stands are awesome.

I have no means of making one. I am not a welder, nor know anyone who could do it for me. So I see this as a service, not just commerce.

I would gladly pay that for one, if i could find a place for one when and if I get another loader.

Thank you fatelvis for making these available.

I made this one myself...bolts to the wall.
Made some "bin-holders" for it to.
