I've never cast for my 222 but am going to try. It's an old rem. 788 and is wonderfully accurate with 22.5 grn 30-31 and sierra 50grn varminter.
Any input on a boolit and load would be welcome.

NOE has some very good molds out in the 22 cal now. I am very fond of his RCBS 22-55, some of my best groops have been with this boolit. His 225107 has got to hold some velocity records with Bullshops testing over 3k fps.
The 225415 is good as is the 225462.
NOE can be found in the Vendor area.

Hope that helps on the boolit end.

I use the old Lyman Ideal 225415 cast out of type metal with 748 powder in my 788 rem 222.Velocity is in the 2500fps range.Accurate enough to ruin a groundhogs day at 150 yards.........Terry

I just started casting for my 222 with the Lee 22 bator mold. Each boolit drops at 53.1 gr +- .2 gr and mics at .2235. Gas checks took a while to get. My first group at short range (50 yd)last week was 1.1 inches but that was with a very (!) poor rest and only four loaded boolits left after chronographing. The powder charge was 10.5 gr of Sr 4759 for a velocity of 2150 fps. Can't wait to spend more time with it.

I have had very similar results with the same bullet, same alloy and same powder in my .223 Rem. I got up to 2800fps with good accuracy.

Need some barrel spec's on that one! At least the rate of twist would be enlightening.

Thanks,

It's a bog standard Rem 700 with a 1 - 12 twist.

Interesting that you would post this (and thanks). I too have a 222 Rem (actually two of them, and Rem 700 Varmint, and a Sako a1 varmint) that I would like to work up some cast bullet loads.

I was thinking of the Ranch Dog tumble lube bullet (50 grain flat nose). I don't have the mold, but it was on "thinking about it" list. I wasn't sure if the tumble lube would provide enough lube (even if I lubed it with 50/50 alox beewax in a lubrisizer) to get through a 24" barrel without leading.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread for mold input.
