So I just came accross a set of .40 cal. HP from CH 4D. I have seen a video of ammosmith using this set up.

He uses 9mm brass to make the projectiles. The problem is that the punch that I have does in no way fit into 9mm brass. Apparently I am going to need another punch.

Here is my question. Is that a correct assumption or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Utah,

The stock punches for CH dies is not supposed to go into the jacket, it seats the lead above the mouth of the jacket and produces a lead tipped bullet with either a flat nose or hollow point.

If you want to make bullets like many that BT and others post pictures of here you will need a different punch to seat the core inside the jacket. Some including my self have just been using the Lee push through sizer punches. You can order them from the Lee website for a couple bucks. If you want a better punch, you might be able to get BT to make you one.

Actually, if you REALLY want to seat cores the BEST possible way, then buy the Universal Notching Die from BT Sniper, in .40.

He'll send you a punch that both expands the brass for the core, and then firmly seats it. After you have processed the install of the cores, you change out that punch from the die, and put the notching insert in. You run them all through that, and then send them into your CH4D final sizer/shaper.

You'll get Hornady XTP style bullets.
