ok Finally after a few years of looking like an idiot asking folks where I could get lead, tin, solder, babbit, linotype, monotype, wheel weights, and most any thing you could cast a boolit out of, a work mate called me today and asked if I wanted this.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/picture.php?albumid=21&pictureid=4161

I need to know how the heck to calculate the mixture, for a good alloy to cast. I have the spreadsheet calculator that is listed somewhere in this forum, but there has to be a better way to figure out how much of what to mix together for a good mixture. Any suggestions??
I have on hand, pure lead, half and half pure/ww, ww, this stuff.

Looks like bar solder to me. Post a close up of each type of bar so we can see the markings. If that was free, you need to go buy that guy a bottle of his top shelf favorite.

50/50 makes calculations easy.

((weight of solder / 2) / (weight of alloy + solder)) * 100 = % added tin in resultant alloy.

Wow, nice score UJ.
Definitely worth a bottle of his favorite top shelf adult beverage.

Joe,

I'll pay for the shipping, just send me one of the boxes full. It'll be work in this summer heat, but I'll do my best to see if it can be used to make boolits.

It may take me a good length of time to draw any conclusions (think sometime next spring). But I'm just that sort'a guy...I like helping when I can.

Lucky dawg!!!

That is a great score. Looks like you got 50 # of bar solder(25#/box). Let me know if you need some help reducing your new stock pile.

yeah me neither, best score before this was two doors out of a xray room. 100lbs of pure lead, and pure hell getting it out of the wood. :x
