I know most of our ranges are similar most have some benches and/or shades some have permanent target hangers some are mobile. I think my local public range is sort of unique not because it is backed up to a 300' berm or borders a Gov't depot,or the target backers at 30,50,100,150,200 . Its the backers being 4x4s and plywood, checked ,repaired and or replaced weekly. The "berm" allows for mobile target out to 400yd or so too.

So let me see what you've got.

No pics of mine but it very strongly resembles a cattle pasture/woodlot with a sand pit at one side and a beaver swamp in the middle...mostly 'cuz that's exactly what it is.

Boy, ours sure ain't fancy. Very small, room for 4 shooters. You walk down 3 flights of stairs into a ravine. The targets can be put on a plywood frame at 25, 50 and 100 yds. Lead is laying on the ground from years of shooting and no one picking it up. Love the place. Friday afternoon and evenings the place is empty. (except for Cindy and I)

I post a pic of mine but you all would probably laugh. Indoor range with 8 points 85ft with other half building is the culb house, 4 point 100yd rifle, 4 point 50yd outdoor pistol and a tree platform with a bunch of rubber anmals for the bow shooters. Best part is 9 out of 10 times there is nobody there. I spend about 7-8 hours at least once a week there. I thank God for the little range I have. Tommy

Our club range goes out to gongs @550yds. We have 50/100/170/220/300/328/428/500/550 yds gongs, with gongs for 50bmg (no ap) at 328/428 and 500yds. Covered firing line for about 10 people on the rifle, and a trap and 2 skeet ranges. Then we have cowboy shooting area and a couple of pistol ranges and are getting ready to set up an action pistol range.

You can setup paper targets to 328 yds if you like.

Then I am getting ready to cut a piece of 5/8" plate, 4' x 8' and make a buffalo gong for the 500 yd setup next to the 50bmg gong.

We also have, in town, an indoor range, 50 ft. that is for 22's and some pistol calibers.

Mine is down a slight slope from my garden spot to a creek. The other side of the creek is a 40 foot bank that serves as my backstop. Its only a pistol range but its mine.

Here's an Ariel view of our range complex. We lease about 600 acres from the BLM. The public range has a covered firing line with benches and target holders at standard ranges to 100 yards. We also have a new 1000 yard match range and multiple pistol bays, club 200 yard sight-in range has gongs to 500 yards. We've been developing the range for 15 years.

This is the place to shoot in Central Oregon.

I sure do envy those of you who have your own range, regardless of size, distance etc. I drive 35 mi. one way to my range, which is a good range unless it it snowed in during the winter, or flooded which has happened a couple of times. Have lived in a number of states, and used a number of ranges thate were anywhere from an old gravel pit to a pretty delux set up. Probably enjoyed most in Alaska, where I could just go accross the road from the base, and shoot into the wilderness. Grew up in Western N.Y. in the country, and used to be able to go out the side door, and shoot pistol and 22's from the side of the house out to about a hundred yds. No complaints from neighboors back then. Try that now in that area and I would bet you would get locked up. I just don't like indoor ranges, and I just don't like that many people on the range. Being retired, I like to be at the range w/targets posted, and pull off the first round before anyone else thinks about range time. Also, being retired I can shoot during the week, one of the few advantages of being an old codger!

Here's the Effingham county Sportsman Club.
Unfortunately an hours drive but that’s not to bad as gun clubs aren't on every corner.
Rifle range has a long row of covered benches not shown in the photo. Range reaches out to 500 yards which is nice.

Here is my range. 123yrd available on the right side of the fist pic. 300yrd available on the left side of second pic. This was the range for my IPSC club before the county shut it down. Shooting can still be done, but it can't be organized, because this is farm/hunting country. :groner:

Smack dab in the middle of a wildlife management area. One big honking swamp it is, kept wet by the Pearl River.

Also accomodates SEAL and Ranger training nearby.

Boz, that's beautiful country. Much like my home in Upper Appalachia, aka SE Ohio. But this Buckeye has been transplanted and here's a link to what is my home range now: http://youngslongshot.com/

My range is BLM land that backs up to the mountains. It has no benches, coverings, etc. The biggest problem is people bring random junk out like televisions and propane tanks to shoot. They also shoot a lot of glass. So what I am saying is my range looks like a dump. I have cleaned it up twice, and within a month it looks like **** again.

Oh well I will continue to clean it when I can so the powers that be don't decide to shut it down.

I should take some newer photos. He have almost finished it. We had alot of problems with water, this berm is in the lowerest spot in the woods and tends
to hold water for weeks after a heavy rain, so we couldn't get heavy equipment in there.
