View Full Version : Barrel ring
Don't know if this is the right location for this question, but here goes: Barrel Ring -- I know what it is, my question is what causes it? Anybody out there who might explain it to me?

That usually means you had a squib load, and fired another round into the bore obstruction.

we had some dcm 30-06 ammunition years ago that was said to cause a ring. supposed to be machine gun ammo. the dcm replaced it when it was discovered. the ring was just ahead of the chamber as I understand.

The cause is an extreme pressure spike. What brings on the high pressure can vary.

Even snow or dirt can cause a ring. See most of them on 22 rim fire and revolvers.
How does this phenomenon relate to using a filler or ldpe wad?

The other one I have been told is excessive oil in the bore.
When fired uncleaned the oil can not compress (& is not pushed out fast enough) therefore acting as a bore obstruction.
Pretty sure I have done exactly this to a 7mm of mine...
