They will be very hard to find and the cost will be very high. I shoot the 249348 & a Lee 208 WC in my .44 Mag/Spl guns...lost of fun to plink with and one uses less lead than a std weight bullet. Might I suggest the Lee 240 SWC-TL...it is very close to a WC and is at the right weight for you--I have one and it casts at 240 grains w/ WW metal. You can buy a new DC for about $18.00 (Midsouth) and it'll work very well for you.

Magma .44-190 PB produces this SWC Boolit (First Pic)at 200 gr from WW.

Runs well at 750-850 fps and is cheap to shoot in front of 5.0 gr of W231 in .44 Spec and 6.0gr of W231 in .44 Mag cases. good for plinking and target shooting.

Strait Wadcutter moulds for .44's have never been plentful, most are Semi Wadcutters, and there are many of them. I have 4 different .44 SWC moulds and use all for different applications and all work well.

Second pic is from left; Mihec 260 gr solid, Mihec 240gr HP ( same mould), Lee .429-240, Magma .44-190, Lyman 429244 250 gr SWCGC. :cbpour:

Gll: those would be considered "flying trash cans"?

There was a Lee 6 cavity GB a couple of years ago for a boolet very similar in appearance to the picture GLL posted. I have it but haven't used it yet. I got it for use in a S&W 696. If I decide to carry it, that would be a hard hitting boolet.

Made by H&G #107 in three sizes....A,B, & C and of course 3 different weights. The trick is to find one, let alone the one that you want/need. The second trick is being able to pay for/afford it. I have the "B" which throws them at 185 grains. The A is the 245 grain. All are usually 4 holers...H&G top quality. LLS

Go to the group buy section.

Mihec has some brass hollow base moulds...over runs...in 432 or 434...craemer style.

NOE has a group buy going currently on a "tri weight wadcutter" in 44.

GLL's group buy mould is d*** good too; as is Blammer's clone of 429352 from OLD WEST BULLET MOULDS

Accurate Molds will make a straight wadcutter mold for a reasonable price.

I can highly recommend the NOE 430-226-WC. My 629 loves them.

Ed_Shot and I must be drinking water from the same well. Only recently I bought a NOE 432-246-WC mold that appears to be a clone of the Lyman 429352 pattern. Like Ed I have plans to push these through a S&W 629 (4 inch) and will use it as a back-up or finisher when hog hunting. Load development has been interesting and is still on going. All I can say now is "Heeere, piggy-piggy-piggy."

My favourite cast bullet for the .44 S&W Special as well as .44 Remington Magnum is one made and purveyed by Night Owl Enterprises. To wit, it is their 432-215 (432-215-HB-Z2 RG2 cavity HB Brass). 256298 I have the two-cavity brass version, which may be readily interchanged to either hollow-base or plain base, with mine -- sized to 0.432" -- dropping at 212 grains. I have loaded and shot these only in the .44 S&W Special cases. On the one hand, not "cheap"; but, imho -- I believe it cost me a bit more than US$100 -- worth every penny!
BEST!

Just ordered this one from Tom at Accurate on a Sunday evening if I remember correctly. It was in my mailbox the following Friday. I even asked him to eliminate the bevel base. Shoots like a dream out of both of my 44 specials.

Tom's got so many good molds, He could put me in the poor house in short order. That almost looks like a mold similar to an LBT ogival wadcutter. . . Yes/No ?

Square Butte, it sure is. That's exactly why I picked it. It's quite good out of my 3" GP100 and really, really good out of my 5.5" flat top Bisley. I got it for some major slap on 40 to 50 yard whitetails in fairly thick cover. Most of my shots are around 25 so I figure I'm good to go. Plus I wasn't willing to dance around with LBT. Tried to contact him several times with no response. Seems to be a common thread as of late, too bad to. I have one of his molds that I ordered several years ago. A dream to cast with and I got it in a timely fashion. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I suspect i will be calling Tom on monday - Looks like that'll get the job done - I can just imagine that one with a little bit of a dish on the front end. Appreciate the reply

Look in Accurate Molds catalog at the 43-260v. It looks like a wadcutter with a slightly tapered nose. I'd like to have one of these myself. If you want it to weigh in the 240 range, ask Tom if he can do that. He is a wizard at mold making!

A lot of years ago I wanted to play around with checking penetration, or the lack of it, with wad cutters in my 44 mag. I already had the LEE 240 SWC molds so I just loaded them nose down. I don't remember the powder I was using, but I remember making sure I had the room in the case. My memory says accuracy was the same, but I wasn't shooting more than 50 yds back then. I also wouldn't have been shooting full magnum loads. I opted away from the WC quickly so never bothered getting a WC only mold.
