I have an extra cylinder for my Bisley 45 colt
What else can it be chambered in ?
is 45 colt the next in line to the 454 casull ?

What is it chambered for now? 5 or 6 shot?

If it's a factory 6 shot .45LC cylinder, you're done.

There was a guy on one of the forums that cut a. .45LC out straight to .475" and used heel bullets in a .45LC case with a .475 barrel. Think .22LR shaped cartridges.

Um..... no. If you're talking about a Colt Bisley, .454 Casull pressures will blow it up good. If you're talking about a Ruger bisley, you'd have to short seat the slugs to clear the forcing cone. You might be able to do it, but why??? (Ruger Bisley can handle Ruger Blackhawk .45 colt loads IIRC, unless they shrank that frame too...)

You could "plug" the chambers and then have it bored for pretty much any plinking round that suits you.

The Ruger BisHawk in 45 Colt is about as much handgun potential as I would ever need, methinks.

Musings have led me in the direction of a BisHawk in 44 Magnum, and to having a 44-40 WCF swap cylinder cut for it. Maybe. The 44 Mag is such a delight accuracy-wise, while the 44-40 can be such a PITA, though. THAT idea gets shelved soon after development, but does re-occur from time to time. The 44 Redhawk's performance has a lot to do with that, I imagine.

One thought.....have you pin-gauged or slugged the throats on both cylinders? Does one "match up" to groove diameter better than the other?

the extra mic's out at an abominable .450-.4505
bore is .451 my original is .4535 (I reamed it as soon as I got it)it was the same as the essa one.....may end up doing the same to this one
I was just curious if there was another cartridge between the 45 c and the 454 c ...is all

I have a convertible Ruger Blackhawk & 2 Bisley Blackhawks. I had the back of the .45acp cyl. cut so I could shoot the 45AR & ACP. All 3 cylinders swap out between each other, timing & length is spot on. I purchased the convertible new, in the late 90's, one bisley was made in 2002 and the latest bisley was made in 2010. All cylinders had .450 throats, had. They're .4525 now. Just wondering if the 45 colt chamber dimensions would allow the 45AR.
Yeah, I could go look in a book, but I'm in my easy chair with a tall glass of iced tea & a full belly so I ain't moving.

Another good use for a spare 44 Magnum BisHawk cylinder might be to have a 45 Colt cylinder cut without the excessive radial chamber clearances present in a lot of OEM 45 Colt chambers.

I had a friend build a 45 Colt PPC gun on a trasher Model 28 S&W. Having the chambers cut to minimum standards, throats cut to .452" IIRC, and a truck-axle 11* forcing-coned 6" barrel that speced at .451" x .441"/6 rights. That critter would cut 25 yard chrysanthemums and 50 yard cloverleaves. He still has it, won't sell it (darn him!). He has taken deer with it, 250 grain SWC at 950 FPS.

Gallagher did this one. 45 Blackhawk with a min spec cylinder cut from a Super cylinder. .4525 throats and 11* f/c
