opening up a .356 size die to .358

Is there anyone who could open a .356 Lyman sizing die to .358.

If not, I will just order one.

I sure wish I had known .356 is not the die to use for most 9mm cast bullets !!!!

I feel your pain. I have .356, .357 and .358 sizer dies from Lee.

He said he does not open up dies so I am still looking for a solution other
than buying a new die.... but its not looking "Peachy"

do it yourself. Use a cleaning rod and some 600grit emery paper. Attach one end to the rod with masking tape and wrap around the rod to get the proper diameter. Then use a power drill to polish it out to size. Will take a fair bit of time. Polish for a minute or 2, then check diameter. Usually takes me half an hour to an hour to take .002 out.

Start with 400 grit for the first .001 then 600 grit for the last .001. I saw a split in
the dowel and tuck the end of the sandpaper through it. Lube with a bit of kerosene
seems to make the paper last longer. Not hard but you must push a boolit through
regularly to see where you are. I use wet or dry (black) silicon carbide sandpaper.

MtGun44's method is the one I've used, but with the addition of 1200-grit as a third, polishing step . So slow, clean and check progress often, and you'll get there.

I have a SAECO and had the same challenge. Needed a .431 opened up. I did it by hand (no drill). Wrapped silicon carbide sandpaper around a pin gauge. I ended up using emery cloth, then the sandpaper. If you use a drill, you probably can just go with sandpaper. My sequence honing by hand only was medium emery, fine emery, 220 sandpaper, 400, 1000, then polish with Flitz.

No doubt that doing a 1200 grit final polish is a plus, slicks it up real nice.

Remember to remark the die, too. Electric vibrator pencil works OK on most.
