Hello all,
I was picking up brass at the range yesterday and found a .45 ACP that had been necked down to about .40 size. Is this a wildcat round or a common round that this guy had manufactured brass for? I will get exact measurements and post them later. Just wondering if this jogs anyones memory or not.

There was indeed a wildcat round developed by a gentleman named Bo Clerke. It was called the 38/45 andwas widely touted by Dean Grennell who worked with it and wrote extensively on it in his Handloading Series. Barrels were available for this round by Bar-Sto and may still be. It is a cute little devil and gives some impressive performance figures. LLS

Might also be a .41 Avenger: the old .45 Win Mag (how many remember the Wildey?) necked down to .41 for use in a 1911. Don't recall who made the barrels but the ballistics were a fairly impressive for the day and the conversion used stock .45 ACP mags.

400 CorBond is in general terms
A 45 ACP case necked down to 40 cal

Star Line makes / made brass for it
Lee made dies

I have a 1911 barrel for it
Sort of a poormans 10MM

Most likely a .400 Cor-Bon. I normally try not to lose mine, but they're pretty simple to make. Just run them through the .400 Cor-Bon sizing die and lightly chamfer the case mouth. Winchester and Federal once fired brass makes the best .400 Cor-Bon, since they're thicker than the rest.

All that's needed to convert your 1911 to .400 Cor-Bon is a barrel and recoil spring. The rest remains stock.

Hope this helps.

I love my 400 corbon barrel for my 1911, hate losing the formed brass...

I agree with ReloaderFred and Moonie,

I got a 400 corbon barrel some time back form a member here and I am quite fond of the round now.

Mine seems to shoot good with cast boolits, something I had a devil of a time with in the 40S&W.

Plus another for the 400 Cor-Bon. I like mine. But I also have a .41 Avenger that I'm experimenting with.
