hi, i have a win 94 mfg in 1954 and i have a been curious about the tang sight mounting holes or lack of one anyway. the left side is d/t for an apeture sight ,,, so why only one mounting hole for a tang sight ?
all tang mounted sights i have seen are two holers, so this must mean you have to d/t your own "top' tang hole yourself,,,, right,? .
so i ask ,,,,,why,?.
have a great night...:evil::-?:twisted:

The other mount screw is the through bolt that holds the the stock on.

ahhh, thanks guys,
bill i didn''t know that about the rec holes, i always thought winchester provided the holes.( pre-d/t) at the factory.
you have put my mind at rest now i know about the tang deal , i will d/t the other hole when i get a tang sight .
is the top small hole the same thread size as the tang /stock hole thread ?
thanks again and have a good-un.:evil::coffeecom:twisted:

No, the front screw hole is smaller than the one for the rear tang screw.

Typically, the front screw on a tang sight is 10-32.

FWIW, AFAIK, Winchester suspended the tang peep sight D/T prep as standard at about SN 1,350,000, and then first started providing the receiver side D/T for peep sight somewhere in the SN 1,790,000 range - which then continued until the introduction of the Model 94AE in 1983.
