Buddy of mine posted this on another board. I have no clue nor does he. It came from a military junk collectors gun vault when he passed away.

Anyone got any clues?

I'm not sure but it might be a "muffler" for a turbojet. Way back when, there was some experimentation using narrower exhaust passages to cut some of the low frequency noise coming out of the tailpipe turning them into higher frequency ear splitters. From the pictures I saw this sort of looks like one - sans the tubes at the periphery. The one in this picture looks too small and seems like it would have too much restriction in the exhaust though.

Yeah he said it's about 8 inches across so definitely too small for that.

The mystery continues.

Did the aforementioned late collector spend time near Roswell, NM, in the late 40's?

You will soon have visitors at your door, a couple of gents in dark suits wearing sunglasses at night. You would be encouraged to comply.

This posting will self-destruct in 5...4...3..

It could be from an APU (auxiliary Power Unit) in a plane.

Almost looks like something someone gets at their retirement party. Her you go and you figure out what it is type of a thing. Being displayed on what looks like a custom base looks like a display model for something. Got me stumped

That is a precision manufactured congressional hypodecimeter used by representatives and senators for blowing smoke up people's ***es. It was developed at a top secret military lab and worked so well , congress appropriated it from the military.

How about the muzzle end of a 30 cal. Gatling gun. Barrels mount through the 10 tubes from the bottom side as it's sitting and jam fit against the fins which provide increased air cooling through the increased surface area of the folds.

I think the turbojet exhaust muffler is close. Early axial jets were extremely loud and they
tried things that looked like this to quiet the exhausts. Kinda small, though. Maybe a
drone jet engine muffler?

Do not be turning strange items bottom side up for a look-see. It is a recipe for getting in trouble. You do not know whose bottom it is, what is under there, and what will happen if you do.

It could be a 1960's rotating psychodelic light/shadow caster for NCO club disco rooms. Looks like the USAF issue. Gotta be a Mil spec on it somewhere.

Aww c'mon people, isn't it obvious??

The 10 "barrels" around the outside are 45ACP full-moon-clip loaders and the center is a "winding base" for a Thompson drum. (Catch the finger tabs on the winding lever in any set of louvres and just twist the drum while the base holds the key in place.)

It's a 45ACP DREAM MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!

it is a "deca-quadrant Philburg Phlange"

if you look at the underside, you will notice the slightly flared ends, that is where it meshes with the Grapplegrummet.

normally these are built into systems using only one phlange, but sometimes they have been expanded to attempt to increase rates.

I have seen designs of these on "What" manufacturing machines. only in 2D graphics though.

interesting to see one for real in the "Deca" format.

if you got the system working smooth, you could really pump out the "What"s with that thing.

"What" pronounced like "watt" or sometimes up here in Canada, "wutt" (sounds like "Putt")

It "might" be part of the cooling mechanism for an aircraft-mounted 20MM or 30MM Gatling-Gun, think Warthog.

I don't have any idea, neither, but I'm glad you have it.

"It could be a 1960's rotating psychodelic light/shadow caster for NCO club disco rooms."

Darn, did I miss something? Phan Rang's NCO club never had psychodelic lights, and I never went to one, once back in the World.

Power-vac Nozzle for the new turbo Electrolux vacuum cleaner. Seriously it looks like some type burner mechanism on the outside radius.
