ok guys hope i,m not a bother. i have i think decided on the rifle i will get. what i was wondering what is the Hartford model and what is a Hartford collar

The first few models of Sharps rifles were made in Hartford. They had certain "characteristics" common to that period of time. One is the Hartford collar. At that time, the factory hadn't perfected the method of transitioning the octagonal shape of the barrel into the round shape at the breach end. So, they made the octagonal portion end abruptly, and turned the rest of the barrel round. The later models have what is described as a "tulip".

Note: When it comes to the Sharps rifle anything was possible as each was more or less a custom rifle and nearly any option could be had - for a price.
