A good friend handed me a bag of freebee's

A complete m17 Eddystone reciever
A cut down m17 Winchester stock
A 40cm piece of 45 cal barrel
200 pcs of 45-70 brass and a Lyman dieset

Another friend donated a 5 x 40 cm all steel empty muffler

So the stage was set and planning could commence.

First the barrel:
As the bit i got was cut from the muzzle end is is way to small for reciever threads. A piece of quality steel was tinned on.

While i was planning this i thought of myself mounting and unmounting the barrel from the reciever and milled these flats.
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010305.jpg

Truing in the lathe and then threads and chambering in one setup.

Now for a reciever "wrench"

A hole for a long handle

And 12mm bolts to hold things together tight!

http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010312.jpg

Now a little milling for the extractor
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010326.jpg

And opening the boltface + some light grinding of the extractor

http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010265.jpg

Now for the dreaded part, making the beast feed.
Just stacking 45-70's down the throat didnt work, when i removed the powder dipper the rounds would eject on their own.

Some checking and measuring of the original rounds in the mag well and then scaling that up to 45-70 rim size, ended with a widening of the back by 4,5mm.
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010283.jpg

http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010290.jpg

So the stakes was set for widening the feedrails and the reciever
Here in original

Here it is milled on one side

And the finished result

Perfect fit

The same widening on the bottom metal so the mag well wil fit

The mag follower is still a work in progress, so no pics as of now.

The muffler as it was given to me (yes i know that the pic shows 2 but i only used one on this project:wink:)
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010314.jpg

Here the muzzle of the barrel threaded for shroud and drilled for bleed holes
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010317.jpg

Here the shroud in place so the stearing ring can be threaded on
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010318.jpg

The idea is to direct the initial blast to the back and utilising the complete volume of the muffler

The ring

And the stuffing

The back sight was milled flat when i got the reciever so drilling and tapping for a Weaver base was a breeze. Here is a pic of the finished product.
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Udstdning/R0010464.jpg

It is "finished" and i have stot 5 rounds through it. The sound is comparable to a 22 Short or 22 Zimmer shot out of a 22 rifle. The load is 13gr of Norma R1 behind a Lee 459 405gr HB. It is below sound but if i slow it down further the flying boolit wil be quierter.
I have recieved my brand new dB meter this week so a big 22LR test along with some measurements on this beast is planned when the weather will hold dry for a day or two.

:awesome::2_high5::drinks:

That's my idea of the ultimate pig gun! Great photo's.

Does the suppressor take out much recoil or is there too little to notice with the reduced loads you've tested so far? My pig gun which is a shortened Lee Enfield takes out a lot of the recoil of a 60% load density round (206gr boolit with velocity of 1600 fps) and makes it sound like a 22LR high velocity. I'm guessing yours will have nothing more than a supersonic crack with full power loads (which can be pretty load with a big boolit).

The recoil is like being pushed on the shoulder by a 95 year old lady with osteoporosis that weighs under 90lbs soaking wethttp://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Blandet/Smilere/dancinguy-1.gif

A piece of quality steel was tinned on.That's a better idea than what I had - to screw the barrel into the chamber piece. Mmmm.....!8-)

I know just how strong such a tinned joint is! Even high strength Loc-Tite would be impossible to disassemble without heat.

Nice project and good results. Do you plan on working on the stock a more or not.

Whats wrong with the termite fodder?
Im not the polishing/bling type of guy, so when it works it gets used.

Whats wrong with the termite fodder?I have something like that with my No4 mint bore. I'm in two minds about changing the stock. It's to do with comfort and cheek weld for the scope. At least I only have to make the much simpler putt-piece.

Great job, what a machine!

If you built a silencer here, the cops would use the SWAT team to drag you off to jail!

It is silly how laws vary so much. A guy with a sound moderator in one country so that the urban fringes and his hearing are not disturbed becomes a miscreant/poacher/sniper/terrorist and ultimatly a prisoner in the neighbouring country.

Outstanding work. How reasonable are the gun laws in Denmark?

Well lets just say that this thing resides in a dark hard to find place now;)

You have to take a very thorugh couse and pass a strict exam to get a hunting license.
When that is done then it is shorguns and non auto rifles galore.

The government are iffy about autos and if you can get one it has to be fixed permanently so it will not hold more than 2 shots.
Silencers are a big nono.
In Norway, Sweden and finland silencers are completly legal for all types of shooting, go figure!

Maybe some members of guvernment have investments in the hearing aid industry. A couple of my mates have permanent hearing damage and they're youngsters! I've always looked after my hearing by using earplugs or muffs even when hunting and today I have good hearing.

Most if not all countries are governed by populists. They will be remembered for what they did and not for what it did to the population or if it helped at all.

To highlight this in DK heres an example:
In 1995 an Italian student was stabbed to death in Copenhagen. Our minister of justice desided that a knife can be no longer than 2.75", no locking mecanism and only two handed opening.
Thus criminating a whole population of law obedient people.

Guess what? This summer Denmark has had more knife stabbings than ever and they dont know how to legislate their way out of the situation.

It's a Salami thing. You had the lot but once in a while they'll take a slice, and no matter how hard you try you cant get it back, everhttp://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm153/Chickenthief/Blandet/Smilere/JC_doubledown-1.gif

I guess I'm very lucky. We had an incident where some night spotlighters were 'hunting' from a vehicle off a road near a campsight and saw this 'deer' wearing a head light with a toothbrush in her mouth by the stream next to the campsight so they shot her in the head, killing her in front of her stag.
:dung_hits_fan:
There has been no talk of banning guns, spotlights, torches or even torch batteries! The culprits are in deep trouble of course. But not for murder. I think they might have been using a shotgun - I don't know. They thought they were seeing a deer eye reflecting in their spot light beam.

I really do admire the way you machinists can move metal and make it work so well . Thanks so much for the pictures :D

Thanks for all of the photos as well as the mag issues.

Somewhere I have it in print on the method that the Mauser company used to figure out their mag box sizes. Will have to keep looking. If you cut your floorplate to take the jog out of it would you still only be able to get three down? Adjustable triggers, etc., are most available for boxes made into five round boxes.

It looks as if you opened up the clip loading slot to fit the 45-70 rim. Why didn't you just round it out in the corners with a round carbide mill? It would have been an easier job, and God only knows that the Enfield has metal in it to spare.

For a folllower I would try some modern long action rifles on hand. Try a Model 70, a long Ruger, a Savage, etc. It would be much easier to modify one of these than start from scratch.

I am going to start looking after P-14, and P-17 parts. The cost of a complete bolt, ejector, bolt release, and mag box might make the project too expensive if I just start with a stripped reciever.

When you altered the mag box did you remember to make it slanted from the bottom towards the front so that the cartridge rims stacked? If you didn't a fast reload would be impossible, and heavy recoil might make them setback assbackwords and bind things up so the rounds will not feed. Rimmed rounds must stack one in-front-of-the- other so they don't tie up.

Keep us posted on how things workout. This might be a much better conversion than a Siamese Mauser.

only thing i see needin' doin' on the stock is maybe to tack-on an enfield sniper type cheek rest to get yer eye up to the scope line of sight. for what it's worth and good job neighbor, bubba.
