I have a broken rear sight leaf on my 422. I bought a new one, but am baffled as how to get the old one off. I thought I could just keep turning the screw and it would walk it's way out, but no way. I'm figuring there's a trick to it, and just need some guidance.

The 422 sights look like Smith revolver sights? I believe you need a replacement windage screw, as the way to remove the blade is to shear off the existing screw head by twisting past stop CC. The windage screw is staked to it's nut. The new screw will need to be staked as well. A bit more involved than it seems. I've never done work on one, but looked it up in Kuhnhausen Shop Manual.

I was afraid of that. I just paid $6.50 to have the leaf shipped, and now another shipping charge for the screw. C'est la vie.

Thanks.

Hmm, seems Numrich are out of stock. Guess I have a safe queen for a while. Oh well, haven't shot it for 10 or 15 years anyway.

Brownells should have it as a rebuild kit...

S&W would sell you the part as well, I would think. It's got to be common.
Good luck

Brownells, as difficult it is to navigate, don't seem to list the 422 as an option.
I'll have to call S&W Monday.
