Hi I was wondering about what amount of black powder in grains using ffg would be used in reloading my 84/71. Right now I'm using 30 grns of IMR 4198 with a cotton ball ramed in the casse to prevent hang fires from not filling the case right up. I'm using a 370grn flat nose coated in alox. Thanks a head of time for any feed back Davge T.

Fill that case right up solidly to the base of the boolit. With black powder, that is.

Make sure you settle your powder by using a drop tube or setting the load tray on a case cleaner (vibrator)... seat the bullet to the powder, ideally with little or no compression. You may also consider a fiber over powder wad or grease cookie- main thing is, no air space or very very little. About 85 gr of FFG works for me, but it depends on the powder granulation and case volume.
