View Full Version : Lyman mould 225644 nose groves?

Does the lyman 22 cal mould no. 225646 still have the groves in the nose or have they eliminated them like their other moulds? Also if they are on the nose that does not touch anything what good are they?

I dunno if the newest ones have the grooves. I asked the same question to find out if they had changed the molds a while back, and didn't really find any answer. I'm waiting for someone to buy a new one and say that it doesn't, just like what happened with the 311644.

As far as what they are there for, I had assumed that they were just for extra lube, or maybe to reduce bore contact and friction in the bore riding design. But Dave Scoville in this article says-"to provide a relief groove for alloy that might be displaced by the lands when the nose of the bullet upsets and foreshortens." I don't know if this is true, but I read it here-
