Just about to start ordering equipment. I have champagne tastes and a beer budget, so my equipment will have to be a compromise.
One area where I want to start out right and buy quality first is the mold. I'm primarily interested in casting full wadcutters for my .44 specials for informal bullseye/plinking. Looking at the Saeco .430/200 grain wadcutter mold.

Can that bullet be sized by a Lee size kit (base push) effectively?
Any other .430" full wadcutter molds that I'm overlooking?
Any general advice?

Thanks!

Just MHO, but... for 44 SPC/Mag - Keith 250 SWC... All I really want to shoot in mine, and my new MiHec mold looks like it will be the bomb!

Fit is key so know what your cylinder throats measure. I have no idea how big that Saeco will drop but if you order a wadcutter from Accurate Molds you can tell him what it will drop. That's the way to do it. You also get to determine weight and shape.

You can size any of these bullets in a Lee nose first sizing die.

I have the Saeco #430 200 wc mould its accurate at 25 yards drops off at 50 yards , I size mine to .430 dia .
IF you would like to try some before buying the mould ? drop me a PM
Lee at one time made a 208 gr WC mould , I had one

Should work fine. I don't know why but 44 WC moulds aren't around much. 38's are a dime a dz. I was on a quest a few years ago to find one and it took awhile but I did. They go for big bucks on evil bay too because they know they aren't around much. I don't know what it is but I just think WC bullets are cool. Lee make a couple WC moulds and I wish they still did. One in 208gr and the other I believe was 180. You could try the buying and selling section and see if someone had one they would part with.

Thanks all, I'm aware of the advantages of the 250 SWC, but I'm looking for a short range plinker with high accuracy and low recoil. Both my .44 specials (S&W 624, Ruger Bisley and a friend's Contender) love the .430"/185 wadcutter from Penn, and every other cast bullet I've tried, so I'm pretty confident it will work well. The 624 is actually a very light gun with the 'mountain gun' profile and short cylinder, so light loads will be the main diet for me and my wife. The Bisley handles the heavy stuff much nicer.

I use A Lyman 429348 & a Lee 208 .44 Cal WC's...both are accurate and fun to shoot in the .44 Spl & .44 Mag. Best plinking bullet type OMHO. You use a lot less lead & powder and they richochet less.

I don't see those listed by their companies.

Any other 180-200 grain .430" wadcutter molds out there?

I have the group buy 200 grainer from GLL, Blammer's clone of LYMAN 429352 (a big thank you to both;) and now MIHEC'S hollow base wadcutter. Miha has some extras in .432 and .434 for IMMEDIATE DELIVERY. NOE has a group buy going on right now for a "tri weight 44 wadcutter."
