Team.

I have been doing a lot of casting lately with 40 - 1, lead - tin alloy and it is a joy to work with. Flows well, forms nicely, nice boolits. No need for a sprue mallet. I use a gloved hand to open the sprue plate and cut off the lead. All very nice.

What kinds of boolits are you casting with this mix? Also, how fast are you pushing them in PB and GC form? I imagine they expand nicely.

Primarily the CBE 320 120 for the .310 Cadet I am working on. Velocities yet to be measured.

Same for 20-1 or 25-1 I cast for LHP, runs nicely, shoots great too upto 1100fps or so w/ a PB bullet.

not to take any away from this thread but I am using 16/1
for my hunting boolit mainly w/gas checked boolits
but would love to try 20 or even 25/1
I would be pushing them to 1250 fps
is that a doable scenario ????

Ol' Elmer used 16 to 1 I believe and you are right close to the velocity he was shooting.

I'm thinking up making up some tin to lead mix and trying it in my 41 with a gas check to check expansion and compare it to a softnose boolit.

I read that Elmer accepted leading in his quest for .44 excellence. I never heard mention of the lube he used but would be interested if any of ya all happen to know.
