Stopped into Grandpa's in Longmont Saturday and saw a 57-1 that I just had to have.
I've never owned a 41 before, so now I get to spend all sorts of money on dies, brass, moulds, etc.
Paid $620.00 out the door for it.

I love it! My avatar is my Ruger flattop .41 magnum. Good for you, I don't believe you will regret it.

I have a twin to yours, got it last spring. It handles cast really well. I like the 410032 and 410028, both sized to .411. I've got a 410426 and a 410610 but haven't developed loads for the heavy weight and I seldom see the need for a gas check. Mine is an early 57-1, 1981. You should be impressed with it's accuracy once you find "the load".

And it is so much easier to shoot than a "29", for me.

Bought mine in 1974, had the presentation case and all the little goodies. It is currently in semi-retirement. Have a Redhawk that I picked up and gave my son a Bisley in 41mag.

I was able to find a discontinued Lyman 41 mold that drops a 220gr "Keith" style SWC. Sized at .411 it shoots really good over 10gr of HS6.

You will enjoy that wheelgun!

Find a Lyman 410459 (220 Keith) or a clone. Over 7.5 grs of Unique it gives incredible accuracy in my M-57.

Thanks Mongo.
I have 500 cases on the way from Starline. I'm thinking about cutting some of them down to 1.16 for 41 Special loads.
What I would really like is to get my hands on a few hundred of the run of head stamped 41 Special brass that Starline did a few years back.

I'm on the list for Mihec's copy of the H&G 258. I also have the RCBS #82039 41-210 on the way from Midsouth.
Of course, I always have my eyes open for older Lyman/Ideal moulds.

7.5 grains of Unique or 8.0 grains of Herco are my go-to loads for castings in my 657 x 6" (#410032).

Matt, that revolver is a classic beauty at a very fair price. Ya did good, sir!

Thanks Allen.
Now that I will be setup for 41 caliber, you know what's next on the list, right?

Ruger Bisley of course! (RB-41W)
Unless I see a nice S&W Model 24 first, or a 27, or a 28, or a 29 or a...
Good Lord, is there a cure for this sickness? :groner:

Groo here
I have a couple [2# Andy Horvath NV 357s converted]
First -Check the crimp groove to nose length on any cast bullet, there are too many out there
that are for Rugers and are a problem in the Shorter S&W cylinder ...
Try not to get into the heavy bullet race [ yes I have a heavy mold ]
The near factory weights work and shoot so well that I have just stayed with them.
You will have little trouble find a good shooting load for plinking,
but as with all pistols there will be that ONE that really works..
Unless you really want to ,, there is no need to use a Special case in a 41 mag,
Just down load with a standard case... A friend and I have had good luck with Trailboss
[just remember to fill the case and use a good crimp ]
