I`m looking at getting a Red Dot sight for my handgun [44 mag]. I would like to get a nice one. What do you recommend? It would be used for target, and hunting.

I've got a Tasco Propoint on my old M-29 and it has held up just fine. I also hear lots of good things about Ultra Dots too.

I have a tasco Pro point, I think it is an IV, it works well, for precision shooting one can set it at the lowest brightness, at that setting on a model 41 smith/wesson 22 target pistol one can hit 12 gauge shotgun hulls at 50 yards. at higher levels of brightness and increased yardage the dot gets too big for ultra precise shooting.

That is true of any red dot sight with zero magnification tho I presume.

I have the Pro point 3 and a 30mm Ultra dot and both are good sights, I don't think you could go wrong with either one. If you want to keep weight and bulk down you might consider the "J" Point sight http://www.jprifles.com/. I have one riding the slide on a 9mm Hipower and on a 1911 .45 auto. If they can take the back and forth shock of an auto slide the .44 should be a cake walk.

Since I have broken so many red dots and scopes on my .475, I called Magnum Research and they told me the Accu Dot will hold up.
