I am building a sxs with one set of barrels in .50-70, does anyone have some mid level loads with 350-500 gr cast bullets?
I plan on staying below 25,000, 30,000 psi .

I have two .50-70s' that I need to feed.
One is a N.Y. contract, the other is a Norway conversion with express sights. I've not shot either- yet!
I, too, need good, safe, load data.

Here's some samples with a 500gr Lee boolit

A casefull ( 43gr) of Reloader-12 = 22700psi
A casefull ( 42gr) of H4895 = 23000psi
A casefull of TrailBoss

Help me a little here!

Barrellength is of utter importance so i can calculate complete burn, also your powders of choise. Actual boolit weight and model will also help a lot, to narrow it down.
Quickload is a fine program not a fortuneteller.

How about 70 grains of FFg black Powder? Thats a good mid range load and can be surprisingly accurate too.

The load Curator mentioned is a good one, but I wouldn't call it a mid range load. (70 grains is a full load and is arguably the load that tamed the west and made it safe for the WInchesters and other firearms to come along later. ) I use it with the Lyman boolit (515141) and also the Lee (515-450) and find it satisfies my needs. Accurate and hard hitting, the 50-70 is fast becoming my favorite cartridge. Mine is a franken-trapdoor and I am considering building another using a Pedersoli Rolling Block action.
