What are 1891 Argentine rifles in say about 90% condition actually selling for? I checked GB but see some for sale but no bids for them. Has anyone seen one sell recently and what did it go for? Had one offered to me for $200.00 and was wondering if that was a fair price.

That is what my dad bought one for last year in the condition you describe. Myself, I would buy a truckload at that price. They are a beautiful gun.

Matching prices on closed GunBroker auctions (quick look) ran from just over $200.00 to just under $400.00 I didn't read all the listings to see condition, but all were "matching" and probably in pretty good condition (those not drawing bids I assumed were not in "90% condition"). Hope that helps.

If Bubba has not "fixed" it,an Argentine 1891 rifle in unaltered military pattern is a great buy @ $200. They are nice examples of German craftmanship.Make sure to check the extractor,it is one weak point in that design.

Yes they are. When the rear sight slider is moved to lock down the sight there is absolutely no play.

I bought one that Bubba made into a carbine for $60. Bubba did a decent job and it is one of my favorites.

While he did say "rifle", you could be right that he's not a collector and is calling a carbine version a "rifle". Bought my '91 Engineer carbine at Montgomery Ward for $17.00. That was a while ago.

I wish it was a carbine at that price.

There were many 1891 imported in the 60s' that had the stocks cut down, along with the barrels on some. I think this is what I bought from an individual in about 1981 or '82. I had the barrel replaced about 10 years ago with a NOS and installed an aftermarket walnut stock. It will shoot groups < 2" at 200 yards if I do my part.

I bought a full military rifle with chrome hardware from a gunshop about 10 years ago for $100 IIRC. The bore suffers from the corrosive surplus ammo but still shoots pretty decent.

I have seen them from $125 for a sporter to $400 for a carbine.

They are a fine piece of machinery and shoot real well.

Yeah, that would be a while ago......

As to $200 for a rifle, it would depend on condition and originality. Keep in mind that most of these had the crest ground off as per Argentine law, so if this one has a crest, that will raise the price.....

+1, but they tend to go to excess headspace. We had one that was a sweetheart, but cases could only be reloaded a couple times before they had to be discarded - shiny ring about 1/4" above the extracting groove, and paper-clip scratcher showed thinning. Couldn't afford fixing, so sold it.

Were you loading for several 7.65 rifles, so you couldn't neck size? If the shoulder isn't set back, the case body doesn't stretch any more after the first firing. Of course if you have several rifles in the caliber, you either have to segregate the cases by the rifle, or full length re-size all of them.

Paid $75.00 for mine from Century one of my first purchases before I got my C&R FFL.
