Well I have been trying to find lead like crazy and it finally paid off, everyone I talk to gets asked if they know where I can score some free lead. Well while catching up with an old work friend it just happened to come up. When I explained what I was using it for he said he had something to give me. Well the next day he shows up with a dusty old box he inherited from his uncle. Score! here are some pictures.

First off the sweet old school melting pot, yep its full.

The Lyman 358311 is the standard RN 38 Special boolit. The Deal is probably a Lyman 358429 clone, and one of the best 38 Special boolits ever - and your's is an HP!

Your new best buddy gives you five bills worth of classic stuff, and you want us to research it for you.? How about you tell us when to come over and clean it up for you, pour some boolits for you,
oh, I forgot -what kind of beer do you like? (Just Kidding!)
358311- 158 gr. 38 sp. .357"
321297- 184 gr. 32 win sp. / 32 Rem .321"

Actually the 'deal' mould is probably an 'Ideal' mould, it's not a Lyman clone, but rather Ideal is the old name of Lyman moulds, so it's the real deal!

Gtek: Check that number again carefully on the "511413"; it is probably really Ideal / Lyman #311413, the classic 169-gr. Spitzer Gas Check design by Sam Squibb from the 1920s, also made as the Hensley & Gibbs #20, as well as by Belding & Mull and other mould makers. Supposed to be very accurate IF loaded perfectly centered, but a bit "tippy" if loaded carelessly. floodgate

On the old Dixie scissor mold I took some rough measurements with my calipers.
The diameter was around .360, the length was around .767, and it had a small truncated nose of around .094. From eye balling it it seem to be very close size wise to my Lyman 358311. Weird thing is that it has no lube rings. Does that make it a musket boolit?

I looked up each mold online and added as much as I could find to my original list above. I could not find the grain weight for my Ideal HP and especially the round balls.

A friend's uncle passed away over 20 years ago and they brought me all of his reloading equipment which included an RCBS Rock Chucker, a Lyman True Line Jr. press and Lyman powder measure, several sets of sies for the Jr. and die sets for the TL Jr, Plus small quantities of various jacketed bullets.

I gave the Rock Chucker and a couple die sets to a young man who just turned 19 and turned him into a confirmed reloader and boolit user. He's in his mid 30's now.

He just brought me a five gal bucket of wheelweights and 600 pounds of lead water pipe.

I haven't looked in that box for years. I'm gonna have to pull that box out and check what's in there and see if I can find a young shooter that could benifit from the contents.

A can of EvapoRust would help out those presses and lubrasizer a lot...Great score, though.

I don't know what your pocketbook is holding in this economy but a nice clean $100 dollar bill or a supper for him and his wife would be a nice thank you back his way. If the money is too hard then a chore needed that he can't get to. Something that would show that he is appreciated as a friend. He could have cleaned that stuff up and and made some good money from the sell of all those parts.

I took him to lunch and tried to give him some money afterwards but he said absolutely not. He said he was just glad I showed interest before he trashed them for room. I told him that if he ever needs bullets that I got him covered. He said that he is not a big fan of cast bullets but thanks any way. I plan on surprising him with something once I figure out something he would like or need. We talked about starting to go shooting together on the weekends so hopefully something will develop that I can in some way pay him back.

His wife passed a couple years back and every now and then I just stop by to say hi and hang out for a couple hours. All those times I never knew there was a bunch of dusty casting equipment hiding in the garage. It was all in a big plastic milk crate covered with dust and mouse dropings, dang heavy too. Luckily when his uncle decommissioned them 20 or more years ago he dipped the molds in red wax and they are pristine with no rust. The seizer and loading press were not so lucky and need some rust work done.

My wife is always wondering why I give so much stuff to my friends and family, it is nice to show her that what goes around comes around every now and then.

Enjoyed the visit today.
Was happy we could get some of your new found toys in operating condition.
And thank you for taking one of those NOE 4 cavity moulds off my hands.

Look forward to seeing you again.
