My local pusher has two Marlin lever guns that I'm interested in. I just can't decide which one to get. First one is a new 45-70 guide gun. The other is a 1894 CL in 32-20. Help me make up my mind!!!

Tough call that one.

You would probably shoot the 32-20 more (economy).

Either way I'd have them fitted with full length magazine tubes.

They don't make the 32-20's anymore and they are nice.

Been leaning towards the 32-20 knowing that I can pick up a Guide Gun anytime later on.

Another voter 32-20. Soon as my Rolling Block sells I'm shopping for a lever gun myself and if you were in my area I'd race you to get to the shop first.
I'm looking for a 38-55 or 45-70.

Go with the .32-20, you can always buy a .45-70 !!!!! Wish I had a .32-20.. Besides if u start reloading, a good 550 grain boolit will cost you better than an ounce of lead and you can make a lot of .32-20 rounds out of that much lead... Oh yeah one more thing, only a suggestion, go with Starline Brass, It's a bit thicker in the neck and will last longer than any other..

I let one Marlin 32-20 levergun get away, and I'm not about to let another one escape. Too much fun, and so cheep to run! Good points about the 45-70s still being made vs. the 32-20 being largely out of print.

Get the 32-20 for all the reasons the rest of the guys say! You can always get a 45-70 later, or do like Dan Cash says and buy both whether you can afford both or not. Nothing wrong with deficit spending, our politicians seem to say. At least your deficit will be for a good purpose.

I have to vote for the 32-20. I recently bought a 25-20 CL and love it . They are sweet to shoot and like the others say , you can buy a guide gun any day....

Just my 2 cents

Besides you can never have too many leverguns ! so it should not be which you buy but which you buy first

Go with the 32-20. I own both and enjoy them both.
I agree with the "they don't make 32-20 any more, you can get a 45-70 anytime" crowd. And you will buy a 45-70 at some time.
There is not a better plinker than a 32-20. Accurate, cheap, fun. What more do you want?

I would buy the 32/20 in a heartbeat unless the price was out of line. I never see any cl's around here, ever.

Guide guns are about as common as dirt. 32-20's are not. Now, if that 45-70 was a Cowboy or Limited it might be a different story.

Get the .45-70, the .32-20 is tough to reload and about as useful as a .22. If you have a .22 then the .45-70 is the way to go.

I own a 32-20. Actually much more than a 22. A great round with the capability of 100-115 gr at 2200 fps or lighter lead loads. I decided a 22 lever could wait because I've got the 32-20.

The 45-70 is everywhere, even Canada!

I don't know if I'd be comparing a 32 20 to a .22. A 32 20 is a good medium size game gun, a .22 is not. I've just bought a 32 20 CL and I cant wait to take it for a walk.

I have not found the 32-20 to be difficult to load for at all. what troubles did you have?
As for a 22 being equal to a 32-20, not in my gun. A 22 with solids is prefect for headshot squirrels, my 32-20 needs to be loaded down. Even with high velocity stuff you are comparing a 35 gr bullet at 1600 to a 120 at the same velocity. Want to really soup things up use a 85 gr XTP at over 2000 fps and see if that doesn't put a big hole in something.

The 32-20 is accurate too. Mine loves a 120 rnfp group buy bullet over 5 gr of Unique.

Anyone can have a 45-70, only the lucky have a 32-20!
