At the time of this report I am sitting here in the comfort of the club house pondering my next move. Went out this afternoon to try some 45-70 loads. 405 HB boolits and smokless powder. Now even though the grouping is not there neither is there any leading. Not sure if this has to do with my take on the Pinko Commie Lube or the the fact that I gave each boolit2 coats of Mule Snot with a brush. Well I have the last string to go through then mull over all the results. The road to perfection is a lonely one.

The road to perfection is a lonely one.

It can be. But the results are worth it. Keep after it.

Always remember to change one thing at a time and test test test. If you change multiple things, who knows which made it worse/better.

Why HB's. I get excellent accuracy out of plain or gc bases with a number of different blt weights in my #1.

I'm with 1Shirt. Hollow Bases are for Black Powder M/L or very anemic handgun loads that would otherwise not obturate.

Your 45/70 smokeless charge is probably blowing the skirt off the base as it exists the muzzle, destroying accuracy.

I have freinds that have used this bullet with smokeless with both good and bad results so i knew it was a **** shoot to start with. The mold used was a 405HB from lee that was designed for the 45-70 not a muzzleloader. The loads i used were low pressure loads and as stout as the skirt is on these bullets it is highly unlikely that it blew the skirt off. However i have since converted this mold to a flat base and will try it out as soon as time permits. Also i have a RCBS 405 GC mold on order.

Good move. I have an old Ohas 405 grainer that is probably the most accurate blt for my 45-70 over 2400.

Drop the Mule Snot and see how well they do. I bet your results will be better. You will probably have some tweaking to do yet. One lube should be good enough by itself.
