As I recently picked up a 577 Snider and a 577/450 Martini, I've been on the lookout for a (used) press to handle the large LEE dies. As luck would have it, a gentleman (from this forum) gave me one! But for those not so fortunate, who need a press to handle the large (1-1/4" x 12) dies, I found this and wanted to share:

The correct die size is 1 1/2 x 12.

There are lots off presses, both old and new, that will handle this size die when the 7/8 x14 insert is removed.

I believe the OP is correct in that the Lee dies are 1.25x12 as that is what my Lee 50bmg dies are, others like Hornady and RCBS use the 1.5x12 thread so the best choise is a press that takes the 1.5x12 and get a reducing bushing from 4D if needed. Just a note that both sizes are used and not standerized.

Rock chucker with the bushing unscrewed would work.

Interesting. I have always assumed that the standard size for 50BMG and other manly cartridges was 1.5x12. I wonder if anyone other than Lee uses the non-standard size?

What about the new Dillon?

Yes- Rockchuckers will work as well as the LEE Cast Classic and the Big Boss. However what's notable about the link I posted was the price; less than 70 bucks. I've used other 'Smartloader' brand items and they seem to be OK.

I use the RCBS Rockchucker and the Redding Ultramag with bushings removed for the Lee and other large dies.

I would do a search here for Smartreloader presses as they have been discussed before and found to be decidedly wanting so check before you buy.
