Went to cock my contender and the hammer spur broke off. Any ideas on what to do. I have a E-mail in to T/C but so far no answer.I sent a E-mail to Mike bellum and he responded saying that he did not have any hammers for the old model contenders.
Gun parts also has nothing.

If anyone has any ideas on what to do to patch this up I would appreciate any help.
Thanks......Terry

Sounds like Blaser.306 may offer a solution.

Mine would be to try silver-soldering first, but you'd have to make a jig to hold the bits in the right position. And I know not what the heat-treat state of those hammers was, so there's the risk of drawing the temper if the jig doesn't include heat sinks. Kinda like the old techniques for bending or welding military Mauser bolts to fit a low scope.

Silver solder can be tough as nails if it's done right. I've got a small piece added to a Stevens 44 hammer that wasn't covering the firing pin enough. This bit takes the full hammer impact every shot, and it has stayed put for about 500 rounds now.

Yes I hope blaser.306 can find his. Thanks for the suggestions. I would have to find some one to weld or silver solder. That is beyond my abilities..........Terry

Terry:
I sure hate to see that your contender hammer went south on you. A real bummer. I called TC the other day about my flintlock's stuck touch hole liner. They fixed it for me and included with the returned barrel was a notice that as of July 1st they moved their warranty and repair service department to Springfield, MA. The phone # there is 1-866-730-1614. You may have known that already, but if not a call to them may get you a replacement hammer.

Yes I could not believe it when that hammer spur broke off. I have a couple of leads here for a replacement. If they don't work out and I don't get a reply from T/C I will call. I read about there move on the T/C web site. They will more than likely want me to send the frame in. I really don't want to do that.........Terry

hope your experience with T/C customer service goes better than mine. 3 tries and they still didn't send the right extractor. end up take the stuff they sent and the stuff that broke, some work with the welder and a file and got something workable as a replacement.

General Comment:
I would Suggest Looking for a Certified Aerospace Welding shop as They Work to Standards suitable for Human Safety of Flight, both in Air and in Space. Talk to them about your problem and the 'worry' of possible changes to the Part Heat treatment and How They Can 'mitigate' such chance of change.

Sounds like You are in a Position where "Metal Whittling" will serve you well.
Get a piece of a Suitable Weldable Alloy Steel and work it into a piece to replace the 'Missing Bit' of your Broken hammer. Then Get it Attached and file to final form.

Best Regards,
