Have any of you folks got any tricks I should know about for the .45-75 Win.
Just got some Jamison brass and a new lever gun, Mod1876. This is my first bottle-neck blackpowder catrridge.
Shot a good deal of straight wall stuff... .45-70, .45-110, .44 Colt .45 Schofield & Colt, etc.
Is there anything that I may not know about the bottle-neck! Please chim in with advice for this one! Thanks for the info.

Scot, you might want to register on The Winchester Model 1876 forum and ask your question there too ...

I shoot a '76 with 70gr FFg - no wad, plus a 23gr XMP5744 load using the Lee 457 340-F. I've also made 350gr paper patch bullets from a 45-70 adjustable mold that were shot with 70gr FFg Swiss

The new Lyman reloading book has a chapter devoted to those 1876 rifles and cartridges.

The new Lyman reloading book has a chapter devoted to those 1876 rifles and cartridges A nice narrative from a historical view point about '76 rifles lacking any loading details.

I have a friend who has an original 76 in that caliber. I asked him what he loads and it is a 340 gr Lyman HP over FFG GOEX so that the powder leaves just enough room to seat the bullet and give about 1/16 inch compression. It shoots OK in his rifle and I know that he has knocked down steel silhouettes at 200 yards with it.

Nick,

Tell your friend thanks for the info. and thanks for passing it along. Not a bad place to start.... Sounds close to basic straight wall technique.
