I was wandering through Gander Mountain and noticed a pile of mini-14s in the used gun rack. One had the stock all beat to piss and surface rust on the barrel/reciever, the had it listed at $650. Do mini-14s really go for this much? The counter guy didn't seem intrested at all in haggling.

Prolly was a rare Collectible mini-14.

on a side note: I know a gunshop that has many rare collectible guns,,, at his prices its rare he sells one and the rest of the time they collect dust.

$650 is only a few bucks short of full-on suggested retail. Even here in the People's Republic, only total fools pay full-on suggested retail for firearms--there are exceptions for new models/variants, but there's at least a small discount for most stuff. Wait and see how long those Mini-14's stay on the rack at that shop.

A LITTLE ??? I wouldn't give that for a 2 for one sale. Of course I wouldn't have a mini anyway but....

For that much, you'd be better off adding some to it and getting a good M1A.

I find it odd (well, maybe that's not the right word -- how about 'comforting') that the military is employing the M14 en masse. They have discovered what some us knew a long time ago that the black rifles just don't cut it. sundog

I've wondered about that myself. It's the same way at bass pros. Maybe it's a ploy to get you to buy a new one from them! Walmart has Mini's for $550 new! Whilethey still have them.

OH! I think those are the full auto law enforcment tradins. They seem to go for $5,000. to $6,000. at auction. Better stock up!

it was a nice gun, one of the older ones. The new one sitting next to it, the action felt really gritty, like the castings weren't finish machined. The rifle wouldn't be for me...I was window shopping for Jen, though the mini-30 might make a better all around rifle.

Dan,

For the money they are asking you can build you own Ar15 in either 223 or 7.62x39 and get a more reliable rifle for your time and money.
