My M-38 Moisin-Nagant arrived from J&G Sales. It looks factory refurbished, which it was. The stock is new. The SN on the barrel, the bolt, the triggerguard and the buttplate all matched. Weight in the door w/cleaning rod = 7 lbs, 13.6 oz; w/o cleaning rod = 7 lbs, 10.8 oz.
The first 3/4" of the barrel is counterbored. Lands are sharp. Grooves look dark but with zero pits. Bore = .3045"; grooves = .3175". It's gonna be hard to get a cast bullet to fit it. I want to use the group buy fat 311041, but it's gonna take higher pressure loads to obturate the bullet to fit the barrel.
It has .010" to .013" of headspace using the ol' masking tape on a case head method. I know that isn't precise, but it lets me know the headspace is ok, which is all I need to know.
All told, I'm well pleased with the rifle--except for the big bore. The rifle was an extra $10 for "hand pick."
PS: it was a little oily, but it was cosmoline free.
